Denise Sullivan Welsh, 72, of
Matthews, North Carolina, passed away on January 22, 2026, in
Matthews, NC.
Denise was born on December 21, 1953, in
Melrose, Massachusetts, to Richard Sullivan and Pauline LaPointe. She grew up in Stoneham, Massachusetts, where she attended St. Patrick's School and later Stoneham High School. Her family later moved to Maine, where she graduated from York High School and went on to attend college in Portland.
Her career eventually brought her to Ohio, where she met her husband and welcomed her greatest joy, her child. After many happy years in Ohio, her work led the family to New Hampshire and ultimately to North Carolina, which became their cherished home.
From a young age, Denise was known for her creativity, especially her talent for sewing. As a teenager, she often made her own dresses, a skill that reflected both her artistry and independence. She also held a lifelong love for Maine, particularly York Beach, where many treasured memories were made.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, Donald LaPointe.
Denise is survived by her loving husband, Richard Welsh; her daughter, Amanda LaVere, and son-in-law, Derrick LaVere; and her treasured grandson, Tanner LaVere, who was a great source of joy and pride in her life.
Denise made her home in
Matthews, North Carolina, where she built a life rooted in love for her family. She was deeply selfless, always putting the needs of her family and those around her before her own. Her kindness, generosity, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her loved ones and will be deeply missed.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 7th, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in
Indian Trail, North Carolina. The gathering will be floating and informal, welcoming family and friends to come and go as they wish while sharing memories and honoring Denise's life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to S.A.F.E. Animal Haven, Billie's Buddies, or Angela's Ark, in tribute to her love of dogs and her generous heart.
