Edna Dorothy (Mossman) Deion of Cranston passed away peacefully Sunday June 2, 2024 at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence at the age of 92. Edna was born on April 12,1932 in Providence and lived her childhood days there. She was the daughter of the late Mary Piazik Mossman Galer, the late Dennis G. Mossman and the stepdaughter of the late George Galer. Edna graduated from Hope High School in Providence in 1950. She also attended classes at CCRI, Rhode Island College and Brown University. She worked at Gamble Brothers in Louisville Kentucky, Brown University, Cranston Public School Department as a Teacher Aide, John Hancock Insurance Company, and the Legal Department of Bank of America. Edna was also a volunteer at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center as office staff. She was a conscientious, diligent, exemplary worker and volunteer, and had a great work ethic. For over sixty years, she was also the chairperson for the Hope High School class of 1950 reunions. Edna valued her relationship with her co-workers, friends, and family. She was always willing to offer a helping hand, words of encouragement and good sound advice. Edna was very strong willed and did not hesitate to speak her mind. She enjoyed inviting people over for a home cooked meal. Edna was also an avid lover of nature and the outdoors. She was known for her "green thumb" and her variety of floral and vegetable gardens. She also loved the beach and swimming. Edna also frequented the local public libraries and enjoyed reading a good book. Edna was predeceased by her daughters Valerie Deion and Lynn (Deion) Duchesneau. She is survived by her other children and their spouses: Henry John Deion III and Deborah Deion of South Kingstown, Mark S. Deion of Warwick, Lori Drummond of Rhode Island, and Mathew T. Deion of Cranston and his former wife, Toni Deion of Cranston. Edna was blessed with many grandchildren: Stephen Deion and his wife Alyssa Deion, Christopher Deion, Jennifer Drummond and her husband Patrick Foley, Daniel Drummond, Annette Deion, and her partner Thomas Rao, and Mathew Deion II, and his girlfriend, Analise Madriaga. She was also blessed with a great-grandson, Elijah Drummond. Edna's family and friends are eternally grateful to the staff at Halcyon Assisted Living, Kent Hospital, Cedar Crest Nursing Home, Sunny View Nursing Home, and especially, HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, where she spent her last days in their care. We also thank the ministry of palliative and hospice care givers, who provided for all her needs, and were vigilant in maintaining her human dignity, and comfort, especially during her last days and hours of life.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday June 6, 2024 in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston from 4:00 to 7:00pm. A Final Farewell in The Butterfield Chapel will take place on Friday June 7, 2024 beginning at 9:30am.
