Edna Erlenbusch, 97, of Bowdle, died Saturday, March 8, 2025 at the Bowdle Nursing Home.
Edna Hintz was born August 16, 1927, at Bowdle to Magdelena (Merkel) and John Hintz. She attended school through 8th grade at the Yellowstone Trail Country School 4 ½ miles west of Bowdle. She attended Bowdle High School, graduating with the Class of 1946. She then took a correspondence class in bookkeeping. Following a one-year stint as a nurse's aide at the Bowdle Hospital, she began working at the Bowdle Creamery on June 30, 1947 as a secretary and bookkeeper. On March 28, 1948, she married Alvin Erlenbusch at the Bowdle Congregational Church. She continued working at the creamery and became manager in 1970. She remained employed there until April 21, 1988 when the creamery burned down. Edna was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bowdle. Always a hard worker, in retirement Edna enjoyed yardwork and gardening. Edna and Alvin also operated rolling skating rinks from January 1, 1951 through 1967 in Bowdle, Selby, SD, and Hosmer, SD.
Edna is survived by nieces and nephews.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, on February 8, 1995; her father, John, on November 19, 1967; her mother, Magdelena, on June 13, 1933; three brothers-John Jr., Daniel, and Arthur; and one sister, Minnie Dabbert.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Saturday, March 15, 2025 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bowdle, led by Pastor Tony Hansen. Interment follows at the Church Cemetery. Organist will be Cindy Miller and usher will be Russ Bomesberger. Congregational hymns will be "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound", "How Great Thou Art", "I Know that My Redeemer Lives", and "Just as I am, Without One Plea".
Honorary bearers will be the Bowdle Nursing Home staff and residents as well as Edna's nieces and nephews.
Casketbearers will be Gordon Hintz and Arlan Hintz of Mobridge, SD; Vernon Hintz of Belle Fourche, SD; Bryan Haberer of Gettysburg, SD; Troy Hyland of St. Edward, NE; and Dustin Swalve of Aberdeen, SD.
Visitation will be from will be from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday at Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle.
Edna's funeral will be livestreamed at the Lien Family Funeral Care Facebook page.
Edna's family prefers memorials to the charity of the donor's choice.
Services are in care of Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle.
