Mrs. Edna Akridge Johnson, age 95 of Oconee, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, following an extended illness. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, December 26, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of May and Smith Funeral Home, with burial following in Bay Springs Cemetery in Oconee. Reverend Gary Yonce will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 26, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Johnson County, the daughter of the late James A. Akridge and the late Nina Durden Akridge. She attended school at Balls Ferry School and Oconee School. The majority of her life was spent being a wife, mother, and homemaker, but she also worked for Royal Manufacturing and Oconee Health and Rehab. Mrs. Johnson was an excellent cook and was known for her chocolate cakes and ham biscuits. She was a wonderful loving wife and mother. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Oconee Church of God. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Erbie Lee Johnson; granddaughter Jocelyn Johnson; sister Faye Stephens; and brother, H.L. Akridge.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her daughters, Barbara Wilson of Oconee, and Stella Screws of Milledgeville; sons, Durwood Johnson and Joel Johnson, both of Oconee; grandchildren, Terri Johnson, Lisa Yates, Chad Johnson, Dallas Johnson, Caleb Screws, Cameron Screws, and Michael Screws, Jr.; great grandchildren, London Johnson, Canaan Johnson, and Colby Yates; sisters, Louise Whitehearse of Mt. Dora, Florida; Lula Davidson of Locust Grove, and Janice Rochester of Blairsville.
