Edna Mae Quinton

Edna Mae Quinton of Junction City, KS was born on March 31, 1926, to Charles Smart and Mary Eliza Gregg in Kingston, Jamaica. She was baptized into the Catholic faith and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. In 1945, she moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico where she met James E Quinton Sr, a career soldier, and spent the next 23 years traveling the world with her family of thirteen children. She made Junction City her home after her travels and became a member of the St. Xavier Parish. She was a career civil service employee and retired after working at Irwin Army Hospital. She attended Kansas State University where she majored in Art and later produced many award-winning pieces. She went on to start her own business named “Edna’s Crafts and Things” where she displayed her paintings and ceramic figurines at fairs and events around Kansas. She was a master seamstress and created many majestic dolls and doll clothing, not to mention the many costumes made for her children’s and grandchildren’s theater and dance performances. She was a member and past President of VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 8773 4th District, a past member of Military Catholic Council of Women (MCCW), member of Business and Professional Women Organization and a member of Saint Xavier Catholic Church. She served as a board member of the Junction City Salvation Army for many years, and she was also a member of Saint Xavier Circle One.

Edna Mae passed away on March 18, 2025, of natural cause at Valley View Senior Life Center in Junction City, KS. She was surrounded by her family and friends.

She is in preceded in death by her mother Mary Eliza Gregg, father Charles Smart, husband James E Quinton Sr, son Desmond E Wilkinson, daughter Shurla A. Quinton, brother Arthur Powell and four sisters Vera Gregg, Gloria Johnson (Luther), Kathleen Palmer (Noel), Ruby Powell (Anderson), granddaughter Crystal Newton, and grandson Geoffrey Quinton.

Surviving family left to treasure and uphold her legacy include her children Lloyd E Quinton of Junction City, James E Quinton Jr (Gladys) of San Jose, CA, Gene B Quinton(Donna) of Charleston, SC, Antonio R Quinton(Renee) of Atlanta, GA, Beverly M Quinton of Junction City, KS, Lorraine V. Quinton of Junction City, KS, Claude M Quinton of Gainesville, FL, Andre C Quinton of West Palm Beach, FL, Monique T Quinton of Lawrence, KS, Raymond F Quinton(Claudia) of Portland, OR , and Yvonne A Cole(Fred) of Jacksonville, FL.

Her surviving grandchildren include Nicole Desouza, Doris Morgan, Donna Morgan, Desmond Wilkinson Jr, Lloyd Quinton Jr, Demetrius Quinton, Jermaine Quinton, Angela Quinton, Doniqua Quinton, Alexander Quinton, Alleyn Quinton, Charles Quinton, Verna Corbin, Heather Farquharson, Dominique Farquharson, Claudette Young, Keana Quinton, Carissa Quinton, Emily Smith, Benjamin Quinton, Andre Quinton Jr, Zachary Zinsli, Bernard Howard III, Emilia Quinton, Elan Quinton, Anthony Quinton, Sapphire Griffin, Brandon Quinton, Maurice Quinton, Erica Quinton, great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The Quinton family wishes to express their heart-felt appreciation and gratitude to all of her many friends, and caregivers for their many years of unwavering dedicated support and care.

A visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025 at Johnson & Mass-Hinitt Funeral Home. A rosary will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2025 with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 1:00 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Junction City.

Floral tributes may be sent to the funeral home OR donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association or St. Xavier Catholic School in Junction City on behalf of Edna Mae Quinton.
