Edna Snyder Obituary

Edna Mae (Rice) Snyder, 93, of Frederick, died peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2026, at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Glade Valley, where she was in rehab following a brief illness.

Born Aug. 23, 1932, she was the daughter of the late William Calvin Rice Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Eaton Rice, Mountaindale. She was the loving wife of the late Charles L. Snyder, whom she married on Valentine's Day in 1957.

She graduated in 1950 from Frederick High School where she was noted in the senior yearbook as being "active in Library Club, on the High Flier staff, a conscientious student and a swell pianist." She enjoyed flower gardening, wrote poetry, was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Frederick where she sang in the choir, was a member of the Wesleyan Circle of the United Methodist Women and the XYZ Luncheon Group. And she was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association. Edna and her husband enjoyed antiquing and attending estate sales. In 1989, she retired from a 26-year career as a library technician with the Laboratory Support Division, Information Management Branch, USABRDL, at Fort Detrick.

She was also predeceased by her sister Grace Keeney, and husband Charles; sister Margaret Wachter, and husband Robert; and brother William C. Rice Jr.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Judith Rice, of Waynesboro, Pa., nieces Carol Keeney, Susan Guynn and Lou Ann Shankle, of Frederick; Marlene Hodgkins, of Fairfield, Pa., and Mary Ann Raun, of Sharpsburg; and nephews David Keeney, of Woodsboro; Larry Wachter, of Frederick; and William C. Rice III, of Enola, Pa., and their families. She was predeceased by nieces Mary Frances Beahm, Sherry Keeney and Joyce Cornell White; and nephews Richard Keeney and Michael Keeney.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Frederick Health Hospital, at Autumn Lake at Glade Valley where she was temporarily residing for rehab, and the staff at Somerford Place Memory Care in Frederick, for their loving care of Edna.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, at Mount Olivet Cemetery's Mausoleum, 515 S. Market St., Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, Edna requested that memorial donations be made to Calvary UMC, 131 W. Second St., Frederick, MD 21701, or any other appropriate charity of their choosing.
