Edna May Patterson-Wright was born June 11, 1956 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Rev. Dr. Alonzo B. and Mrs. Shirley M. Patterson.
A member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Anchorage since 1970, Edna grew to know Jesus from a young age: participating in Vacation Bible Schools, Youth Ministries, and Sunday School.
Edna attended East Anchorage High School in 1970 and graduated in May of 1974.
As a young adult, she was a lover of music and enjoyed dancing to late 70's and early 80's hits.
After high school, she moved to New Orleans, Louisiana and married the late David Lee, Sr. from which one son was born, David A. Lee, Jr., in 1980. David Lee, Sr. passed away years later.
As an adult, Edna was given the nickname "Kyema," by her late sister, Janet Robinson, and the name stuck as playful banter between the two throughout their adult years.
Janet, Edna, and their mother, the late First Lady, Shirley M. Patterson, were like close sisters: laughing, shopping, and traveling together. Known as "3-peas-in-a-pod," they rarely were seen apart from each other.
Edna later married Mr. Johnny D. Wright on June 30, 2001 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed 21 years of marriage bliss until his passing on April 4, 2022.
Edna leaves behind to celebrate her life: Father, Rev. Dr. Alonzo B. and (Stepmother) Edwenia Patterson; Brother, Dr. Kim J. and (Sister-in Law) Mrs. Mary W. Patterson; Sister-in-Law, Ms. Sherry L. Patterson; Brother, Mr. Norris W. Patterson; Brother, Mr. Mitchell W. Patterson, Son, David A. Lee, Jr.; Grandson, Hasaan Lee; Granddaughter, Nia Lee; Niece, Ms. Christina M. Patterson; Niece, Ms. Kelli R. Patterson; Great Niece, Makaylah Patterson; Nephew, Mr. Joseph J. Robinson; Great Nephew, Raejuana Robinson; Nephew, Michael C. Patterson; Great Nephew Ahmir M. Parker, and a host of distant relatives, friends, and loved ones.
Edna will be missed by her family and friends for her child-like spirit and endearing smile. She trusted in Jesus as her Savior and is now counted among that great cloud of witnesses in Heaven.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church at 855 E. 20th Avenue in Anchorage, Ak. on Monday May 19, 2025. Viewing will be at 12:30 pm. The service will begin at 1 p.m.
