Edson Alexander Beason-a father, brother, minister, and mentor-passed away on August 4, 2025 at the age of 85, from complications of cancer. Born on July 5, 1940, in Ludlow, Crofts Hill in the parish of Clarendon, Jamaica, to Hartley Beason and Theresa Cole. Edson was one of thirteen children raised in a home filled with love, faith, and laughter. His early years in Ludlow shaped a life rooted in service, conviction, and spiritual devotion. Edson answered a divine calling to ministry, becoming a pastor and later serving as the head minister of the Church of God in Chantilly for twelve impactful years. His sermons were known for their passion and wisdom, and his leadership left a lasting imprint on the community he cherished. In 1981, Edson moved his family to the United States, embracing a new chapter with humility and resilience. He continued his ministry with unwavering commitment while also working various jobs as a warehouse laborer, painter and many dedicated years in hospitality at the Hyatt Hotel in Buena Vista, Florida. While working, he gained his US citizenship in 1991. This was a very proud moment in his life. He helped to pastor several churches from Philadelphia to Orlando, Florida-bringing his message of faith and hope to congregations across many states. Edson was also committed to learning and self-improvement. He attended trade school at Seminole Community College, where he trained to become a mechanic. He later earned his heavy equipment operator's license-an achievement he was deeply proud of. These accomplishments reflected his determination, versatility, and belief in hard work. Edson was a man of strong convictions and unmistakable personality and extreme faith. He loved to laugh-his humor could light up a room-but he was also famously stubborn. He did things his way, even when it wasn't the right way, and he rarely apologized. If he felt he was wrong, he'd often go quiet rather than admit it. These traits, while challenging at times, but were part of what made him so unforgettable. He was fiercely independent, deeply passionate, and always true to himself. He didn't always know how to express his love and fondness, but you knew he cared in his own way. Outside of his ministry and work, Edson was a musician. His love for the guitar was infectious, and he generously taught many young men to play-leaving behind not just melodies, but mentorship and inspiration. He was also passionate about gardening. Edson had an almost magical touch with plants-he could get anything to grow, anywhere. Watching him tend to a garden was like watching an expert at work. Whether coaxing vegetables from stubborn soil or nurturing vibrant flowers, it was amazing what he could grow. His gardens were not just beautiful-they were a reflection of his patience, care, and quiet mastery. His life was anchored in faith, and service. He is survived by his son Ian, daughter Stacy, ex-wife Pearline, grand children Noah, Samuel, Deija, Destiny, and Alannah. He is also survived by eight of his siblings: Stanford, Gilbert, Fedlyn, Gladdis, Dorothy, Ivy, Sammy and Timothy. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he guided, taught, and loved. May Edson finally rest in peace as he crosses over to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
