Edward Akins Jr. was born in Chicago, IL on February 27, 1957, to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Akins Sr. His parents relocated to Gary IN; and settled in “Terrytown” where they raised Edward, their third child and his siblings; Gregory, Terry, Jerry, Ronald, John, Edwina, and Robin Akins.
Edward Akins loved and lived life to the fullest and on his journey, he was admired and loved by many. As a young child he excelled in baseball, football, and wrestling. He went on to college with a scholarship from Central State University as well as South Carolina State for wrestling.
Although Edward led a full life his most important accomplishments were the birth of his 4 daughters: Makena Akins-Bostick, Jeane’ Akins-Barefield, Rochelle and Rachel Akins. As well as his 9 grandchildren so far as; Aaron, Jada, Janya, Jakyla, Jordan, Nyla, Jayden, Matthew, and Joshua.
He departed from this life on Monday, December 05, 2023, at his residence. He leaves to mourn in his transition: His four daughters Makena (Tyrone) Bostick, Jeane’ (Jacob) Barefield, Rochelle and Rachel Akins. Seven brothers and sisters: Gregory, Terry Sr., Jerry, Ronald (Michelle), John (Josie), Edwina Mack and Robin (Reese) Gault. Along with a host of Family and Friends.
