Edward Junius Bailey: 3/21/1945 – 2/1/2025

Edward Junius Bailey was born March 21, 1945 in Mobile, Alabama and died at home surrounded by family on February 1, 2025 in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Ed was born to Junius and Jane Alums Bailey and grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana with his two sisters. After graduating from high school, Ed attended Abilene Christian University and received his bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication and Biblical Studies. He later went on to earn a master’s degree in journalism and mass communication from Iowa State University, and his Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska—Lincoln College of Law.

Ed chose vocations that combined his love for The Lord with his love for others, using his talent and experience to serve those he encountered. After graduating from ACU, he was very involved in Italian missions, both in Pisa and Florence, and he and Annette spent 4 years in Italy. He later became a professor of journalism at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, and then as a professor of law at Pepperdine University. After Pepperdine he went on to serve as vice president and COO of World Christian Broadcasting Corporation, where he combined his love of sharing Christ and shortwave radio. Ed also practiced law serving our immigrant population both in his private practice in Nashville, TN and in his role as Social Responsibility Director for the YMCA International Legal Counseling Services in Houston, TX. In addition, he served on many professional boards including as a US delegate to the World Radio Communication Conference in Malaga, Spain; an elected school board member in Williamson County, Tennessee; legal officer to the US Coast Guard Auxiliary; founding member and president of the National Association of Shortwave Broadcasters; and board member of York University, York, Nebraska. His most recent volunteer focus was with Dash Network, where he used his passion and expertise to provide care to one of the most vulnerable populations in our community—people seeking asylum. Over the years, Ed served as both deacon and elder at Churches of Christ in Lincoln, Nashville, and Houston.

Ed was a loving and kind husband, father, son, brother, and friend. Ed was blessed in love twice, first with his wife of 11 years, Annette, and again with his wife of nearly 45 years, Louise. He loved deeply and always saw the good in others. Ed had a well-developed sense of humor and a trademark chuckle. His many and varied interests included sailing, flying, cooking, reading, and music.

Ed was preceded in death by his first wife, Annette Freeman Bailey, and his parents, Junius and Jane Bailey. Ed is survived by his second wife, Louise Moyers Bailey, his daughters, Kate Bailey Crawford and husband Brian, Erin Bailey Crawford and husband Jim, son Greg Bailey;  his grandchildren, Jacob Crawford and wife Samantha, Hailey Crawford and Lindsey Crawford, his great grandson Maverick Crawford, and sisters Marilyn Hare and husband Steve and Susan Coffey and husband Mike as well as nieces and nephews and in-laws who loved him dearly.

A memorial service celebrating Ed will take place on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 2 PM at The Hills Church Chapel, 6300 NE Loop 820, North Richland Hills, TX 76180. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation at www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org
