Edward Marvin Bodie, Sr., 86, passed away February 8, 2026, leaving behind the love of his life for 68 years, Shirley Ann Bell Bodie.
Also survived by two sons, Eddie Marvin Bodie, Jr. (Debbie), Gary Lynn Bodie (Deanna), one daughter Donna Leal Herron (Eddie); six grandchildren: Michael Bodie (Marlea), Anna M. Lee (AJ), John Edward “TJ” Herron (Erin), Natasha N. Staples (Justin), Austin Bodie (Kristen), Trent Bodie; seven great grandchildren: Kellan Bodie, Kaiden Bodie, Nina Lee, Ben Herron, Wes Herron, Taylor Staples, Aubrey Staples. One sister; Patricia Jackson, one brother-in-law; James Bell (Glenda); one sister-in-law Sheila Spicer.
Ed was born on June 6, 1939, to Oscar Manuel Bodie and Lena Ruby Fulmer Bodie, who preceded him in death. Three brothers also preceded him in death: James Farrell Bodie, Oscar Eugene Bodie and Glenn Arthur Bodie.
Ed served in the US Army as a young man and was proud to have done so. He retired from Owens-Corning Fiberglass. He was an avid golfer, up until the last few years, playing weekly with a group of Bogeyville friends. He loved to say, “if you want a draw like mine, get your leg amputated”. His family was his pride and joy. They will always have fun memories of yearly Edisto vacations. Ed enjoyed woodworking, making furniture, bird houses, picture frames for family. He was also an excellent mechanic. Ed and Shirley enjoyed retirement life and each other to the fullest. They had a beautiful life.
Ed was a man of faith; in his early years he grew up at, and was a member of, Bethel Baptist Church. He faced so many health challenges throughout his life but had the most positive outlook and was never defeated. He was the rock of the family.
If being loved could heal a person, he would still be with us. Known as a husband, Daddy, Papa, BigPa, friend, he will be missed more than words can ever express, but we know that he is with other family members and friends that have gone on before him. He is healed and happy and no longer in pain.
A graveside service will be held to celebrate his life on Friday, February 13, 2026 at 2 o’clock pm at Aiken Memorial Gardens with Pastor Mike McAlpin officiating.
Pallbearers will be his Grandsons: Michael Bodie, TJ Herron, Austin Bodie, Trent Bodie, Justin Staples, AJ Lee.
The family would like to thank Charlie Norwood Augusta VA and ICU Wellstar/MCG and Natalie, MSW for the loving care and kindness they showed.
