Edward Borlen Obituary

Edward J. Borlen
1948 - 2025
West Springfield
Edward J. Borlen, a man of great character and integrity, entered eternal rest peacefully in the loving comfort of his devoted wife, Lorraine on June 2,2025. He was taken too soon and unexpectedly, but his legacy will remain. Eddie was born in Holyoke to the late Edward F. and Sophia (Marra) Borlen and spent his youth and was educated in West Springfield where he remained a lifelong resident. He was enthusiastic and ambitious in his early years and had such a passion for cars that he was a natural to become a real car guy. And there was none better than "Fast Eddie." And until he fell in love with his beloved Lorraine and they wed in 1991, being an auto aficionado was his passion. He and Lorraine built a wonderful life together enjoying the success of Eddie's career. He was the owner of Hilltop Motors in Springfield for forty years and was also associated with F C Auto Sales in Hampden. Eddie crafted the slogan "we are on the hill, but we are always on the level." And that was Eddie always happy to incite a laugh or two with his portfolio of jokes. He looked forward to Saratoga every summer and in the winter joined the snowbirds in Fort Lauderdale leaving the cold and snow behind. He was a long-standing member of the Springfield Country Club. Eddie not only was a real car guy, but he was a man who was fiercely loyal, honest, and true to his family and friends. He could draw a crowd with his bigger than life personality and enjoyed the camaraderie. To those whose lives he touched and there were many, Eddie will never be forgotten.
Surviving Eddie are his devoted wife Lorraine, her family and countless friends among them two very special friends, Frank Colanti and Mike "the curb" Bonavita, Tim Hourihan and crew and Bobby Cunningham.
Visitation will be held on Monday June 9,2025 from 4-7 P.M. at the Agawam Funeral Home 184 Main Street in Agawam. Family and friends will meet directly at Sacred Heart Church 385 Chestnut Street in Springfield for a 10 A.M. Liturgy of Christian Burial on Tuesday June 10, 2025, immediately followed by committal at Gate of Heaven Cemetery 421 Tinkham Rd Springfield. For those wishing to remember Eddie in a special way his family suggests donations to Shriners Children's New England Hospital 516 Carew Street Springfield MA 01104. AgawamFH.com

Mr. Borlen always made it a point to crack a joke or make us laugh hysterically whenever he made his way to the bank! We will sorely miss him and his excellent disposition! We are not having a rotten day today because you are not here to wish us one!! R.I.P Mr. Borlen!!!!

Lorraine and Family, I'm sorry to hear of the passing of 'Fast Eddie'.He was certainly a 'one of a kind '.Went on a couple of horse racing trips with Him and 'The Crew' over the years and He made the trips a lot more interesting to say the least. To listen to Eddie and Rudi go back and forth at the Student Prince in the good ole days was always worth the price of admission. He loved life and He loved His wife, that was Eddie. He will be missed.

I feel so fortunate that I was able to call Eddie my friend.
Lorraine and I have been best friends for 40 years. When they wed in 1991 I was in their wedding party. Since then we have been the 3 amigos!
Always looking forward to our annual Ft Lauderdale trip in Feb/March.
Eddie had the best sense of humor. I will miss him very much.

Lorraine and family,
Purchased several vehicles from Eddie and he always backed what he sold. Went to the auction with him and everyone knew him. One time he told me he had 1990 Park Ave Buick that was owned by Bishop Mcquire. I checked with Bishop and it was his. I purchased the vehicle and I couldn't be happier. Eddie was good guy

Dear Family and Friends.
Heartfelt sympathy to all.
Meeting Big Ed many years ago at the "Monte"was as joyous as the bellowing echos of laughter and cheer I still hear now.
There wasn't anyone he didn't know.
He was the guru wizard of Auto knowledge, what year + model was good or bad, to buy or stay away from.
A jokester, prankster, and above all someone I would call a friend.
Thoughts, prayers, memories and Godspeed to all.
