Edward Michael "Mike" Burnaby, age 67, of Goetzville, Michigan, died at his home on May 4, 2025. He was born on September 23, 1957, in Bay City, Michigan, to John and Ann (Bender) Burnaby.
Mike spent his early years in Bay City before his family relocated to Goetzville when he was in seventh grade. He graduated from DeTour High School in 1977 and soon after began working at Taylor Lumber in their sawmill. In 1987, he joined Michigan Limestone (now known as Carmeuse Limestone), where he worked as a dedicated equipment operator until the time of his passing. It was at Michigan Limestone in 1988 that Mike met Cami Cottle. The two were married on June 12, 1993, at the Pickford Presbyterian Church, beginning a loving life together rooted in shared values, hard work, and family.
Mike was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed snowmobiling, cutting wood, and ice fishing. A devoted father, he never missed his son's athletic games and was especially proud when Blaine's football team captured the 2019 U.P. State Championship title. Sundays often found Mike at Big D's Diner, where he enjoyed breakfast and good conversations with friends.
Mike will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love for the outdoors, and the pride he took in his family.
Mike is survived by his wife of 31 years, Cami; daughters, Mayson (fiancé, William Irish) Burnaby of Traverse City, Michigan and Blair Burnaby of Bay City; son, Blaine Burnaby of South Bend, Indiana; sisters, Betty (Larry) Barner of Camden, Tennessee, Marie (Tim) O'Hare of Midland, Michigan, Michele (Art) Belinski of Stalwart, Michigan, and Sheila (Kevin) Hagan of Apollo Beach, Florida; father and mother-in-law, Gerald and Sharon Cottle of Pickford, Michigan; brother-in-law, Brent (Nikki) Cottle of Pickford and brother-in-law, John (Cyndi) Sirmeyer of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews who will all miss him dearly.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ann, brother, John Burnaby; sister, Connie Sirmeyer; and brother-in-law, Ken Lucas.
A Memorial Gathering will take place on Monday, May 12, 2025, at Family Life Funeral Homes, 24549 S. M-129 Pickford, MI 49774, from 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM. The Memorial Service will follow immediately at 12:30 PM.
Mike's final resting place will be at Cottle Cemetery in Marquette Township, Michigan.
