Edward Burns Obituary

Burns, Edward F. Age 80, lifelong resident and fourth generation Lake Forester died in his home November 10, 2010. Retired in 1990, he served as a police officer for the City of Lake Forest for 23 years and then as Fire Chief for 14 years. A parishioner of St. Mary's Church, he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He served in the military and was a member of the American Legion Post 264. Mr. Burns was actively involved in youth athletics coaching basketball, baseball and football for more than 20 years. He was an avid golfer and upon retirement he and his wife spent their winters in Naples, FL. Edward was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be sorely missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Rody. He is survived by his sons John (Sue) and Ed (Linda) Burns, daughter Barbara Norton (Paul). He was grandfather to Ryan and Brittany Burns, Angela and Samantha Norton, Jennelle Ottum and Bonnie Grube and great grandfather to Callan Ottum and Bonnie Grube. His is also survived by brothers Leonard, & Robert Burns, sister Mary Jane Tiegs. A Visitation was held, on Monday, November 15, 2010 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Wenban Funeral Home, 320 E. Vine Avenue, Lake Forest, IL. A Funeral Mass was held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Church of St. Mary, 175 E. Illinois Road, Lake Forest, IL 60045. Interment was private.
