Pittsburgh's Brightest Light | 1951–2025
If you're reading this, it means Edward "Mickey" Carney has taken his final bow - and true to form, he left behind laughter, love, and a trail of one-liners only he could pull off.
On July 29, 2025, the world lost one of its true greats. Mickey wasn't just the life of the party - he was the reason the party existed. A tried-and-true Pittsburgher and die-hard Pitt alum and fan (don't even mention Penn State around him), Mickey lived loud, loved big, and laughed often.
He saw the glass as half full, usually of something cold and shared with a friend. He never let the small stuff stick, never met a stranger, and made every room brighter just by walking into it - often with a story that may or may not have been 100% factual, but was always 100% entertaining.
He is survived by his forever dance partner and wife, Jan; his children Leanne Jones (husband Craig, kids Charlotte and Cole), Lindsay Kozak (husband Rob, daughter Emelia), and son Sean - each of whom carries forward his quick wit, big heart, and uncanny ability to talk to anyone. Pittsburgh knew him. Pittsburgh loved him. Pittsburgh is a little quieter now.
Mickey didn't just live a good life - he made sure everyone else did too. He taught us to find the funny, to hug often, to root hard (especially for Pitt), and to never take life too seriously.
We'll miss him terribly. But we'll hear him every time we belly laugh, high-five a stranger, or hear Sweet Caroline. His echo is in the joy we choose, the stories we tell, and the people we gather.
So raise a glass. Tell a joke. Make someone smile today.
That's how Mickey would want to be remembered.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hart Funeral Home Inc., Murrysville.

Mickey was my fraternity brother at Pitt and a good friend. He was in my wedding party. We lost touch over the years but he was the life of the party even then. My condolences to Jan and their now adult kids who were babies when I last saw them. It is a sad to think that Mickey is gone but I will always remember our college days.

Ed was our neighbor across the street and he was also the realtor for the seller of our house. He was very kind. He lent a clarinet to my child who was waffling on whether to take band. (She ended up in the high school marching band). Ed went out of his way to personally help us when the attorney made a major mistake on the deed and would not correct it. He also followed up and wished us well when we moved out West. We will miss him and our condolences to Jan and Sean and the rest of the family. Bob and Diane Bickers

This morning at Mass, they mentioned this gentleman's passing. I looked up the obituary and while I did not know the gentleman, this obituary painting an absolutely realistic portrayal that brought him to life. Whoever put this together certainly made him proud. God Bless you all and I am sure his memories will warm your lives for many years.
