Edward Corbett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by D`Alessandro Funeral Home & Crematory on Jan. 15, 2026.
Edward "Ed" Joseph Corbett, 87, passed away on January 6, 2026.

Born on March 19, 1938, Ed was the son of Patrick and Elizabeth Corbett. He grew up in Mt. Lebanon and graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School, where he was a proud member of the football team. In the 1956 WPIAL championship against Aliquippa, he lined up across from the legendary Mike Ditka.

Ed was also a talented baseball player and attended several major league tryout camps. And while many have claimed to witnessed Game Seven of the 1960 World Series, Ed truly was there.

Ed served in the United States Army with the 36th Armored Infantry Brigade in Germany from 1957 to 1958. After returning home, he spent most of his working years with the Yellow Cab Company. He cherished his hometown of Pittsburgh and knew its geography like the back of his hand, especially the roads leading to the racetracks.

News of a visit to his brother Frank's home in O'Hara Township stirred excitement among the neighborhood children. Ed had a knack for orchestrating games and activities that drew everyone in, creating moments of fun and laughter that became cherished memories.

A lifelong music aficionado and knowledgeable fan of vocal jazz in particular, Ed will be remembered as someone fun-loving, easy going, curious, erudite, enthusiastic and young at heart. He was the 'life of the party' in a seemingly effortless way - 'Effervescent Ed'. His kindness, quick wit and devotion to family, friends and neighbors were extraordinary. His final years were among the happiest of his life, thanks to the warm friendships he enjoyed with his neighbors at Saint Augustine Plaza residence and the staff.

His quiet acts of generosity and his willingness to help anyone in need left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Ed is survived by his brother, Thomas, and was preceded in death by his siblings Margaret, John, Joseph, James, and Frank. He is also survived by his cousin John Brancheau, and his many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 17, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Church, 225 37th Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15201. A greeting period will take place beforehand. Friends and family are invited to attend and share memories.
