Edward Cornelius Culbreth, a devoted husband, father, veteran, and educator, passed away on March 18, 2025, in Dallas, TX, at the age of 91. Born on July 30, 1933, in Jacksonville, FL, Ed was the son of Edward Randolph and Lucille Culbreth. He grew up in Jasper, AL, where he graduated from Jasper High School in 1951, earning his Eagle Scout rank and establishing a lifelong commitment to service and leadership.

After high school, Ed attended the University of Alabama, where he worked toward his undergraduate studies until 1955. He was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army, beginning a remarkable military career that would span over two decades. Ed was stationed in West Germany from 1955 to 1957, serving his country during a pivotal time in history. After returning to Alabama, he continued his education at the University of Alabama, earning his MBA in 1958, and was an active member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.

Ed’s dedication to his country and his service in the Army never wavered. He re-joined the military in 1958, serving until his retirement in 1979 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Throughout his service, he was stationed in various locations and assignments in the Chemical Corps, including a tour in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star with a "V" device for his valorous actions during the war. His contributions to the military were numerous, and his leadership and courage left a lasting impact on his peers and those who served alongside him.

On June 6, 1962, Ed married the love of his life, Frances Molan Culbreth. Together, they shared 62 wonderful years of marriage, filled with love, laughter, and memories. After retiring from the Army, Ed found a new calling as an educator, dedicating at least 10 years to teaching and sharing his wisdom with others.

An avid collector, Ed had a passion for antique steins, beer memorabilia, and World War II artifacts. His collection was a reflection of his deep interests in history and the stories that shaped our world. He and Frances moved to Kaufman in 1979, where they became faithful members of Our Merciful Savior Episcopal Church.

Ed’s legacy lives on through his devoted wife, Frances, his children Candace Culbreth Kines of Rowlett, TX, and Randy Culbreth of Playa Del Rey, CA, and his beloved cousins, including Rebecca McGlamry and her husband Dalton. He also leaves behind his nephew Tony Shoemaker, along with numerous extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Edward Randolph and Lucille Culbreth, and his Aunts: Connie Cornelius, Ruth Shoemaker, and Willie Cornelius. He will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his country, and his community.

A celebration of Ed’s life will be held at Our Merciful Savior Episcopal Church in Kaufman, TX, with details to be announced. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the church or a charity of your choice.

Ed's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
