Ronald Eugene Lett, 82, passed away peacefully with family surrounding him on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL. The family will receive friends at the Tuscaloosa Co. High School Gym from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at St. Mark Church in Northport with Mr. Andy Phillips officiating. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bebe Jan Davis Lett, his son, Ron (Merideth) Lett and his daughter, Dr Julia (Aubrey) Boothe. His most special name was "Pappy," and he was very proud of his grandchildren, Anne Elizabeth (Brayden) Crowell, Laura Adelynn (Hayden) Kelly, Martha Thaxton, Katie (Coley) Smith, Sarah Beth Boothe, and Meri Davis Lett, and great-granddaughter, Kollyns Ruth Kelly. He was blessed with a "quiver full" of wonderful kiddos.
He was born on December 14, 1943 to Eddie Mae "Jackie" (Jones) and GC Eugene Lett in Tuscaloosa. He proudly called the Big Sandy Community south of Tuscaloosa home as a youngster. Big Sandy Baptist was where he dedicated his life to God and glorifying Him and met his helpmate, Bebe Jan Davis. He graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School in 1961 (after driving the school bus everyday as a student for years) and The University of Alabama with a degree in Music Education in 1965. He began music ministry while in college and continued to lead until a few months prior to his death including leading the Christmas Cantata at St Mark Methodist December 2025. After graduation, he returned to TCHS to teach and decided that would be home. For the next 60 years, he found a way to always serve TCHS and to make an impact on generations through his love of choral directing and music ministry and administration. He served in many churches throughout Tuscaloosa County and had special memories everywhere he served. Until a few months prior to his death, he could recall facts about most every student that he would see many years later including what part they sang, where they sat in choir and likely a humorous antic or two. His ability to know the details of others' lives was inspiring.
Pallbearers will be Chip Cates, David Hartley, Hayden Kelly, Erik Rodenberry, Coley Smith, and Preston Williams. The number of important friends and family are too numerous to list. He had a way of making everyone feel like they were his favorite...and they were. His ability to encourage and challenge was a gift from God, and he used it wisely through music education, administration, and music ministry. He started a legacy and would be most happy for us all to continue to serve others, lead to God and help when you can.
Memorials can be made to the TCHS Choral Department Ronald Lett Scholarship at TCHS Choir 12500 Wildcat Drive Northport, AL 35475, or any charity special to you.
