Edward Diulus Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brusco-Napier Funeral Service Ltd. on Apr. 20, 2025.
Age 87, of Squirrel Hill, lifelong resident of Oakland and Greenfield, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, April 19, 2025. Son of the late Anthony V. and Dolores (Dandrea) Diulus. Father and best friend of the late Edward C. "Eddie" Diulus. Grandfather and "Pappy D" to Corey, Joshua and Dylan Diulus. In addition to his parents and son, Ed was preceded in death by his late brothers, Jim "Squeege" Diulus, Guy "Bud" Diulus, William "Bill" Diulus and nephew Anthony V. Diulus. "Grumpy" was also a great-grandfather and uncle to many nieces and nephews; also survived by many cousins.
Ed was born in Pittsburgh and lived a majority of his life in the "Panther Hollow" section of Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood. After more than 20+ years working as a Laborer and then as an Operator at ALCOSAN, Grumpy retired in 2002.
He enjoyed an occasional cigar, which he always chewed, never smoked, going for a daily walk to play his 3-digit evening "numbers", cooking himself a nice fried bologna "sangwich", drinking a cold can of Pepsi, watching all Pittsburgh sports teams compete and his "old cowboy programs". More than anything, Grumpy was especially proud of his Italian roots and ancestry and growing up "dahn the Hollow". Grumpy loved to tell stories about his time at ALCOSAN and growing up in Oakland, attending Pirate games at Forbes Field and football games at Pitt Stadium.
Ed's caretaker and grandson Josh, would like to express his deepest gratitude and give a special thanks to Pap's dear friend, John Silverstein, for his assistance in care, always lending a helping hand, his patience and for his dedicated, compassionate, and selfless care for "Mr. Diulus" over the past 5 years. Josh would also like to give a special thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff at West Penn Hospital, Primary Care - Geriatrics, especially Dr. Lyn Weinberg, Jackie Cullen, Kathy and Patty for their team's patience, guidance, support and compassionate care for Pap during his time as a patient. Also, Josh would like to give a special thanks and great appreciation to AHN Home Health Care and the doctors and nursing staff at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital/Family Hospice, 7th floor, Unit 7G for their generosity, professionalism and taking such wonderful care of Pap during his final days.
As per Grumpy's wishes, there will be no public visitation. Burial will be held privately. Grumpy will be laid to rest with his late son, Eddie, in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements have been proudly entrusted to Ed's Grandson, Joshua E. Diulus, F.D. & BRUSCO-NAPIER FUNERAL SERVICE, LTD., 2201 Bensonia Ave., Pgh, PA 15216.
I pray that you have found peace and comfort & you are finally at ease. The pain & suffering is no more. You are forever reunited with your son. Be at peace, Pap. I'll miss ya.
Love,
Your Grandson, Josh.
