Edward David Dysarz, 86, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on September 2, 2025, in College Station, Texas.

Born on July 5, 1939, in Hamtramck, Michigan, Edward's life was marked by innovation, service, and a deep commitment to both his family and community. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in Detroit before joining the U.S. Navy in Jacksonville, Florida. Following his military service, he pursued higher education at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, and later at the University of Houston.

Edward’s professional journey began at Ingalls Shipyard in Pascagoula, Mississippi and continued at Bethlehem Steel in Beaumont, Texas. His career later took him to Houston where he entered the oil industry. There, he made significant contributions by designing offshore oil rigs that were sold around the globe. His inventive spirit extended far beyond engineering—during the late 1980s, Edward turned his attention to healthcare safety. He developed numerous medical innovations including the first intravenous catheter and safety syringe designed to protect healthcare workers from HIV exposure. These groundbreaking devices were adopted worldwide and remain a testament to his forward-thinking vision and compassion for others. Over the course of his life, Edward was awarded 48 patents across various fields.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Edward was deeply devoted to helping others. For thirteen years, nearly every Saturday morning without fail, he could be found feeding the homeless in downtown Houston—a quiet but powerful expression of his enduring generosity and empathy.

Edward had a deep devotion to the Catholic faith. He loved to talk about religion and he prayed the rosary every day. He was a member of the Third Order of Franciscans. For many years he attended mass at the Schoenstatt Shrine in Lamar and assisted when needed. He was also known for his sense of humor and love of practical jokes especially on April 1st. He brought joy and laughter wherever he went.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary Jane ( née Collins); his sister, Marion Rosecrance; seven children: Edward (Susan) Dysarz, Mary Bayeh (Michael) Stasiowski, Margaret Dysarz, David Dysarz, Matthew (Rina) Dysarz, Thomas Dysarz, Adam Dysarz; fourteen grandchildren: Alex (Erica) Bayeh, William (Terry) Bayeh, Liela (Derich) Romero, Madeleine Bayeh, Samuel Bayeh, Kayla (David) Torres, Lauren Dysarz, Justin Dysarz, Christopher Dysarz, Shane Dysarz, Aaron Dysarz, Cameron Dysarz, Brandon Dysarz, Branden Dysarz: and seven great-grandchildren.

A man of remarkable intellect and boundless heart, Edward David Dysarz leaves behind a legacy defined by innovation, service, faith, and love. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire future generations.
