Edward “Ed” Gerald Windberg, age 81 years, of West Bend was called home to be with the Lord on July 14, 2025, at Aurora Medical Center Grafton surrounded by his loving family.
Ed was born on April 19, 1944, in Kent City, Michigan to Ernest and Lucille Windberg (Gehl). He was united in marriage to Judith “Judy” K. Salacina on June 5, 1965, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Ravenna, Michigan.
Ed graduated from Ravenna (MI) High School in 1962. He attended City Barber College in Detroit, Michigan and had a 12-year barbering career. Ed continued his education at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business. He was a systems analyst for over 38 years, with the last 10 years working for West Bend Mutual, retiring in 2007.
Ed and Judy had a passion for travel. The couple traveled to all 50 US States, 7 foreign countries. Ed’s travels would occasionally take him to the casino and he was known to buy one lottery ticket on a weekly basis, always sure this would be “The One.”
Ed loved sports (especially the Brewers and the Packers), although with his roots in Michigan, he maintained a love for the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions and followed both teams. In his younger years, Ed played in many golf leagues and enjoyed playing and watching golf whenever he had the opportunity.
Those Ed leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 60 years, Judy; two daughters, Brenda (Rick) Windberg and Rhonda Windberg; three grandchildren, Dr. Elizabeth (Alex) Klettke, Anna (Zack) Campbell, and Sgt. Gabriel Horne; and brother, Ernest Windberg. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard (Elaine) Windberg and James (Roberta) Windberg; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Adolph and Myrtle Salacina (nee Claypool); sister-in-law, Sandra Hartman; and brothers-in-law, Roger Salacina and Gary Salacina.
SERVICE: A memorial service in remembrance of Ed will take place on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 12:00 Noon at Washington County Memorial Park Chapel, 3358 Paradise Dr, West Bend, WI 53095. Ed’s favorite color was green. The family would like those attending to wear something green to honor Ed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ed’s name can be directed to the American Cancer Society.
