Edward "Edd" Emerson Combs, Jr. of Tifton, Georgia, passed away at the age of 81. He leaves behind a life filled with dedication to his faith and family.
Edd was born October 22, 1943 in Piqua, Ohio. He graduated from Yamato High School in Japan and earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia. Edd moved to Tifton, Georgia in 2019 after spending much of his life with his family in Mulberry, GA, Panama City, FL and Dothan, AL.
Edd is survived by his four children, Edward Raleigh Combs, Amy LaNora Xydias (Ted), Christopher Daniel Combs (Roxanne) and Katryn Tara Combs. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Roman Xydias (Jessica), Ashton Burton (Jeremy), Alexandra Combs, and Evan Combs. Edd was also a proud great-grandfather to Julian, Willow, Benjamin and Bradley. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Combs Hamilton (Duane), his special friend Betty Tyler, niece Trudy Eaton (Kenny) and many extended family members.
Edd was an avid fan of Ohio State Buckeye football, NASCAR racing, and enjoyed a round of golf as often as he could. Edd enjoyed listening to oldies and classic tunes and cooking or grilling with his family on weekends. Edd had a special connection and enjoyed time with each of his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as “Poppy”.
Edd's faith in the Catholic tradition guided him throughout his life, imparting values of love, service, and devotion. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as a Faithful Navigator.
Edd was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Edward Emerson Combs, Sr. and Genevieve Ruth (Bolling) Combs, along with his dear wife, Myrtle LaNora Combs. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit, characterized by warmth and kindness, and a great sense of humor, will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 24 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Albritton Funeral Directors, 1020 Tift Avenue N., Tifton, Georgia.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday, June 26 at St. Columba Catholic Church in Dothan, Alabama, immediately followed by interment at Ward-Wilson Memory Hill Cemetery in Dothan.
