Edward L. Fairchild Jr.
Edward L. Fairchild Jr, 75 of Toledo, Ohio passed away July 6, 2023,
with his family by his bedside at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Ed was
born November 13, 1947, in Toledo, Ohio to Edward and Virginia
(Kornet) Fairchild Sr. Ed was a graduate of Woodward High School
and served in the US Army during Vietnam. Ed worked for the
Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home as a Funeral attendant for the past 8
years. Ed also worked for Doehler Jarvis Company in Die Casting for
30 years, and the Andersons in the Produce, Bakery and Deli
Departments for 16 years.
Ed and his wife Linda were members of the former Alexis
Congregational Church where he served as pastor for a number of
years before their merger to Stateline Community Church where he
served as a Deacon of the Church.
Ed was a longtime member of the Toledo Sail and Power Squadron
since 2005,most recently serving as Chaplin. Ed was also a member
of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary of District 9 since Dec. 19,
2011, serving on many committees and was most recently Vice
Division Commander.
Ed had the privilege of going on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C.
in November 2022, after being on the waiting list for 3 years.
He also enjoyed growing roses in the yard of his home and at one
time attending to over 100 individual plants.
One of Ed favorite Bible verses was, Isaiah 40:31.
He has collected many Eagle memorabilia, statues, T-shirts and
plaques over the years.
Surviving is his wife of 56 years the former Linda Brown whom he
married on April 8, 1967, son Brian (Cindy) Fairchild and daughter
Tamara (Jeff) Mental, 3 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and sister.
The family welcomes friends and family for a celebration of life at The
Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home 3453 Heatherdowns Blvd at Byrne Road on
Thursday July 13, 2023 from 2-8 P.M. with the Toledo Sail and Power
Squadron and United States Coast Guard Auxiliary services at 7:00 p.m.
Celebration of life will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday July 14, 2023,
at 12:30 p.m. Interment will take place in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park with
Military honors. The family asks in lieu of flowers please consider making
donations to the Maumee Save A Pet or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
