Edward Rene Fredette, known affectionately as Ed by those who loved him, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, in Orange, California. Born on September 11, 1941, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, Ed was a beacon of light and laughter to all who knew him. He was the cherished son of the late Jeannette and Arthur Fredette of Springfield, Massachusetts.
Ed is survived by his devoted wife, Lore Fredette, his loving children, Edward and his wife Kellie, Christian, Christa and her husband Richard Dong, and Joslyn Markuson. His legacy continues through his sister, Jeanne Brittingham and her husband Mike, his sisters-in-law Marlene Williams and her husband John, Jeanette Walters, and Patricia Fredette. His grandchildren, Tom Donavan and his wife Bethany, Tiffany Nolan and her husband Danny, Grace, Lisa, Reese, John, and Ryder, and his great-grandchildren, Luke, Charlotte, Benjamin, Danny, and Sandra, will miss his guiding presence. Ed also leaves behind a caring extended family including his niece Shari Pastore and her husband Michael, great-niece Alexis, nephew Brady Walters and his wife Katie, great-nephews and nieces Lyla, Roma, Graham, and Grey, Travis Walters and his wife Chelsea, great-nephews Bryn and Colby, nieces Tracy Hill and her husband Steve, and Lisa and Brooke Rohrer, as well as the entire Farber and Williams families, and a multitude of friends. Preceding him in death were his brothers Arthur and Tom Fredette and his sister Rose Kieffer.
Ed's formative years were spent in Holyoke, Massachusetts, until his family moved to Orange County, California when he was twelve. He was a proud graduate of Mater Dei High School in 1959. Ed's life was forever changed when he met his soulmate, Lore Vogel. They married on December 3, 1988, and together they built a life filled with love and joy.
Professionally, Ed was a skilled automotive technician, dedicating over five decades to the trade. In 1995, he and his son Edward Jr. ventured into entrepreneurship, successfully operating their own automotive shop. His retirement allowed his grandson Thomas to continue the family business, a testament to Ed's enduring influence.
Ed and Lore settled in Modjeska Canyon, where they were blessed with 37 years of happiness. Ed's heart belonged to his family, friends, and neighbors. His passion for life was evident in his many interests, which included nature, camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, and taking walks with his beloved dog Bubba. He was an active member of the Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue society, where he not only found Bubba but also helped other dogs find loving homes.
A man of great spirituality, Ed believed in the power of love, peace, and the beauty of nature. His sense of humor, especially his 'dad jokes,' will be fondly remembered for always bringing laughter to those around him. His habit of writing notes to himself and leaving them around the house was a quirky trait that endeared him to his family.
Ed's love for his family was profound, and he relished every family gathering, big or small. He was the embodiment of love, spirit, and humor, and his passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. Edward Rene Fredette's memory will forever be cherished as a blessing to all whose lives he touched.

Boy did I luck out cause I got to live with Ed in the Castle for about eight years. A kind, helpful, fun "brother," I will cherish my memories of then, and the memories of our continued friendship over the decades...his marrying Lore, watching the kids growing up, then the grandkids...we are so enriched having had Ed in our world.
