Edward Frey Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Day Funeral Service - Gahanna on Jun. 16, 2025.
Edward Charles Frey, age 68, loving father, tradesman and friend entered eternal rest on Monday, June 9, 2025. He is survived by his three children, Lauren Frey and Brittany Frey of Columbus, Josh (Lindy) Frey of Dayton; 4 beautiful granddaughters, Maddilyn Mullen, Mara, Maeci and Maven Frey; brothers, Don, Tom, and Dan Frey and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Don and Mara Frey; siblings, Karen Yoder, Bill and Jeff Frey.
Ed was the third of seven children born on January 26, 1957. Known for talking nonstop he quickly earned the name Motor Mouth as a child. Ed attended St. Francis Desales Highschool until his junior year and then Graduated from Big Walnut Highschool in 1975.
Not long after the birth of his daughters he joined the Local 189 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, whom he was a member of for forty years. Ed became a legend within the Local 189 as stories of him still echo through the Union Hall. He was given the name 'The Golden Child' as he was privileged to do what he pleased because he was able to get the impossible job done and done with excellence. Ed was known for his craft and took the upmost pride in his work. After retirement he became a pool shark and loved hanging out with his friends daily.
Through the entirety of his life, Ed marched to the beat of his own drum, a drum in which he fashioned himself with whatever scraps he had laying around. Every story Ed told, it was the BEST and BIGGEST, he loved to embellish his experiences. His kids will remember him for his Sunday meals with football, countless hours in the woods and his handy man skills. As a handy man, he was known to "Edify" whatever he was working on. It often didn't make sense to anyone but him, but it ALWAYS functioned. He could fix anything. Gardening and cooking were also a specialty of Ed's. He had a hell of a green thumb and made the best mashed potatoes on this side of the Mississippi. Rock 'n Roll was a big part of Ed's life, always buying the best stereo system he could get his hands on. Ed was truly one of a kind, making a lasting impression on everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by loved ones.
In honor of Ed's love for a full belly and a good time we will be having one last Sunday meal on June 29, 2025, at the American Legion Post 254 Johnstown, located at 180 West Maple Street, Johnstown, Ohio 43031 from 1-4pm. We hope to see you there. In lieu of flowers please put a $20 in the slot machine or drink a cold one in Ed's honor.
