Edward Jencks Gauthier, MD passed away Monday June 16, 2025 after suffering a stroke in July of 2018.

He was born in Providence, RI on September 17, 1932 to Dorothy Jencks Gauthier and Edward H. Gauthier.

A graduate of Hope High School, Edward continued his studies at Brown University majoring in English. He graduated with distinction as a member of Phi Beta Kappa in 1954. Edward then went on to Tufts University School of Medicine and graduated in 1958.

Edward then completed a Fellowship and Residency Cardiology at Rhode Island in 1963. He became board certified in Internal Medicine which began a long career in that field. He continued in private practice from 1971-2005. He later began a Primary Nursing Home Practice, which he was dedicated to until 2018.

Outside of his career, Edward had a wide array of interests which included fishing and sailing. He was an avid reader of literature and historical studies. In addition, he had an artistic side which he expressed through his paintings.

He leaves behind Mary, sons Edward N. Gauthier, David G. Gauthier and his wife Susan, Granddaughter Nicole, his sister Amy Mullervy and husband Miles, nephews Brian and Keith and his wife Maritza, nieces Kanani and Amy and great niece Ellie and Olivia. He was also the brother of the late Ann G. Hicks and Katherine Titchen

A funeral service will be held Friday at 11am in the Historic Chapel of Swan Point Cemetery, Blasckstone Blvd Providence. Donations may be made to West View Nursing Home, Activities Department, Attn: Matt Cooper, 239 Legris Ave. West Warwick 02893.

We would like to thank Dr. Anthony Lombardi and the staff at West View Nursing home for their compassion and care of Doc during his stay.
