Edward "Ed" Champion Goodwin, of Ironton, MO, went home to Heaven on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at the age of 94 years, 3 months, and 22 days. He was born October 22, 1930, in Shores, VA to the late William Jennings and Mary Kathleen (Pace) Goodwin.
On May 4, 1952. Ed was united on marriage to Joyce Marie Lee who preceded him in rest on January 1, 2009. On March 19, 2011, Ed was united in marriage to Myrtle "Bubbles" Lavine Johnson who survives. Also surviving are four children, William "Bill" Goodwin and wife Vicki of Warrensburg, MO, Michael Goodwin of Warrensburg, MO, Alice Marie Lynch of Tacoma, WA, and Micah Goodwin and wife Sierra of Ironton, MO; nine grandchildren, Michelle, Nathan, Jessica, Bryon, Larissa, Rachael. Maci, Parker, and Ranger; nine great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Olivia, Mason, Ethan, Alexa, Preston, Parker, Julian, and Olivia; and many more loving family members and friends.
He is preceded in rest by his parents, his first wife Joyce, a brother, William Jennings Goodwin, Jr., and a sister, Katherine Rinker.
Ed was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ironton, MO, and a former member of the Scottsville Baptist Church, which was also Lottie Moon's church. Ed had a strong faith and belief in Jesus Christ, and carried that faith his whole life. He believed in the love of family and made sure his family had everything they needed.
In his younger years, Ed received the call to preach at the age of 16 and began to preach at his local churches. He went on to graduate from Baylor University in Waco, TX, in 1952, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, in 1957. Ed received his Master's Degree of Divinity, was called to preach at the First Baptist Church in Parma, MO. In 1963. He and his family moved to Bonne Terre, MO, where he pastored at the First Baptist Church until 1969. In 1970, he became the pastor for the First Baptist Church in Ironton, MO.
Ed served many years for the Baptist Home in Ironton as the Administrator and Director; he was instrumental in making the Baptist Home what it is today. With countless hours and dedication to his work, Ed was determined to make the Baptist Home the best home for the residents and staff. Enough can not be said about what all Ed did for the Baptist Home, his family, and his community.
Edward Champion Goodwin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be missed by all who were blessed to know and love him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025, beginning at 1:00 pm from the Cole Family Chapel.
A Visitation for friends and family to gather will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, beginning at 6:00 pm and lasting until 8:00 pm.
Interment will follow the services in the Arcadia Valley Memorial Park in Ironton.
Pastor Roger Dumas will be officiating the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Baptist Home or Mission Dignity in Ed Goodwin's honor.

This remembrance is from Jeanette (Burney) Ashley. My dad was John Burney, the Superintendent of The Baptist Home just prior to Ed. I have great memories of Ed, my dad, Ernie Towler, and Orvill Sykes fishing and golfing together. My family truly valued Ed and respected him. He was a real "hero of the faith."
