Edward Havers Obituary

Edward J. Havers

OLEAN - Edward J. Havers, of 1625 Goodrich Ave., passed away Thursday (May 2, 2024) following a very short battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Eddie was born May 30, 1945, in Olean, and was the son of Edward W. and Mary Beliles Havers.

Eddie served in the U.S. Navy as a medic for 4.5 years and was on an aircraft carrier for 2.5 years during the Bay of Pigs. He was transferred to Chelsea Naval Hospital in Boston, where he worked in orthopedics and neurosurgery. He was a navy and Golden Glove Champion. Eddie was honorably discharged in 1966.

Eddie held various jobs throughout his career. He did various home improvement jobs such as roofing and siding. Eddie worked for Dresser Rand and bartended at the Palace Café for Mike Cavalier. He also worked for Sanzo Beverage for 9.5 years and was a liquor salesman for Italian & French Wine Company for 5.5 years. Eddie was the owner and operator of Eddie's State King Restaurant in Olean for 35 years, where he earned the nickname "Krazy Eddie." He was also a member of Christ United Methodist Church.

Eddie enjoyed riding his motorcycle for years and was a member of two different clubs. Eddie was also active in the community; he was a member of the St. Stephen's Club, the Elks Club, the Eagles Club, Moose Club, VFW, 32nd Degree Shriner, the Bradford Italian Club, the Bradford Moose Club, the AMVETS of Cuba, the Enchanted Mountain Beagle Club and Charlie Camp. Eddie was also a part of multiple teams that were champions in the Allegany River Regatta for many years.

Eddie is survived by the love of his life, Dorothy J. Cashimere, with whom he shared a wonderful 46 years; his daughter, Yvonne M. (Lloyd) Sweet; a sister-in-law, Paula Havers; three nephews, Jon Paul "JP" Havers, Daniel (Patricia) Havers and Rodney (Janelle) Havers; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and several great-nieces, nephews and cousins.

Eddie was predeceased by his parents; a son, Eddie Joel Havers Robinson in 1989; and his brother, Daniel L. Havers on July 5, 1987.

Friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday (May 8, 2024) at Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean. Funeral services will be held beginning at noon Thursday (May 9, 2024) in the funeral home. The Rev. Ronald Isaman will officiate. Burial with full military honors accorded by the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892 ritual team, will be in the Allegany Cemetery.

Donations may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
