Obituary of Edward L Hicks

Edward L. Hicks, 80, of Penn Yan, NY, died on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Alton, IL on February 1, 1945, the son of Louis F. and Mary A. Hicks.

Ed was a Vietnam War Veteran, serving with the US Army from 1965-1970. He later served with the Army Reserves from 1971-1978. On March 20, 1971, he married his wife Judy in Reno, NV.

Edward was a mechanic for many years, retiring in 1998. He worked at JR Garage, Lake Country Ford and Seneca Army Depot. He also worked at Walker Built Woodwork, Michael Sterns, Lake's Gas and Roto Salt. Ed was a member of the Penn Yan American Legion. He enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his family. He loved playing with Bear and Missy, his fur babies.

Ed is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy (Pedder) Hicks; four children, Edward G. Hicks (Judy Sisson), Louis F. Hicks (Shelly), Timothy L. Hicks (Pamela), and Mary Taylor (Craig, Sr.) all of Penn Yan, NY; 12 grandchildren, Zack Hicks (Mollie), Keagan Hicks (Stephanie), Sawyer Hicks, Christopher Hicks, Akemi Hicks, Ethan Hicks, Tyler Hicks, Alexandria (Achary), Olivia Hicks, Brandon Taylor, Lydia Taylor and Craig Taylor, Jr.; great grandchildren, Zaya Hicks, Kaiden Hicks, Karter Hicks, Marshall Hicks, Avianna Hicks, Elliot Delamater, Waylon Delamater, Hudson Taylor and Bennett Taylor; brother-in-law, Jim Pedder (Lucy) of Penn Yan; and by several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and several brothers and sisters.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, August 18, 2025 from 2-4 pm at Townsend-Wood & Zinger Funeral Home, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, NY. Private burial will be in Bath National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 355, 2001 Himrod Rd., Penn Yan, NY 14527.
