Edward Andrew Hoffman, 88 of Glidden, died Monday, June 9, 2025 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll surrounded by his family.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 14, 2025 at St. Mary's Church – Our Lady of the Plains Parish in Lake City. The Celebrant will be Fr. Brian Feller. Concelebrants will be Fr. Timothy Schott and Fr. Lynn Bruch. Organist will be Julie Clayton. Diane Sommerfeld will be the Cantor. Lectors will be Calee First and Courtney Sibbel. Gift Bearers will be Logan Pieper and Lexi Pieper. Eucharistic Minister will be Adam Sibbel. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Ed's granddaughters. Casket Bearers will be Ed's grandsons. A private family burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery near Lidderdale.
A visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll with a rosary at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 9:30-10:15 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for a later designation.
Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Ed's family at www.sharpfuneral.com.
Edward Andrew Hoffman was born on October 21, 1936 in Roselle, Iowa the son of Andrew and Laura (Riesberg) Hoffman. He grew up in Roselle and graduated from Holy Angels School. After graduation he worked for area farmers and then worked for Sharp Funeral Home and flower shop.
On November 9, 1957, he married the love of his life Lorraine Hagemann in Carroll. In 1958, they moved to a farm south of Auburn where he began farming. In 1960, they purchased their present farm near Lidderdale. He continued to farm and did custom windrowing for neighboring farmers. In 2006, he retired from farming but remained on the acreage.
The Catholic faith was very important to Ed. He volunteered as an usher and assisted with Holy Family Cemetery. He attended, watched Mass and prayed the rosary often. Ed was a member for many years at Holy Family Church in Lidderdale until its closing. He then became a member of Our Lady of the Plains Parish in Lake City. He enjoyed playing cards, crossword puzzles, fishing, and watching and listening to the Chicago Cubs. Ed loved teasing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ed was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus and member and past president of Farmers Cooperative for Lidderdale, Glidden, Lanesboro, and Carroll.
The Hoffman family would like to extend a sincere appreciation to the staff at Regency Park Nursing Home and St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll for the wonderful care they provided to Ed.
Ed is survived by his wife Lorraine Hoffman of Glidden; his children: Kevin (Lisa) Hoffman of Breda, Randy (Terri) Hoffman of Fort Dodge, Stan (Cate) Hoffman of Lidderdale, Connie (Jeff) Larson of Ankeny, Rhonda (Rick) Snyder of Granger, Brian Hoffman of Lidderdale, Dean (Annmarie) Hoffman of Ankeny, Jeff (Janet) Hoffman of Carroll, Craig Hoffman of Van Meter, Sheri (Brian) Rodenkirk of Ankeny, Tami (Mike) Halverson of Johnston, and Carmen (Adam) Pieper of Polk City; 24 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Adella (John) Vogl, Alvera Rosonke, and Laura Ann Danner; his brothers-in-law, Hubert Hagemann and LaVern Langel.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his grandsons, Dustin Hoffman and Dakota Hoffman; his siblings: Louetta Langel, Velma Hoffman, and Rose Marie Sturm; his brothers-in-law, Virgil Rosonke and Dennis Danner; and his sister-in-law, Virginia Hagemann.
