Edward Willis Janisse affectionately known as Uncle Butch, age 85, passed away on January 29, 2025. He was born on January 28, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Leo M. Janisse and Sara (Sally) Janisse. Edward is also preceded in death by his daughter, Anne Marie Janisse Stiles; and sister, Shella Galvin.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Rosa Lee Janisse; loving children, Terri Rose Johnson (Hollis), Thomas Leo Janisse, and Mary Shella Orr (Jeffrey); grandchildren, Tommy Janisse (Rachel), Danny Janisse, Joey Janisse, Brandon Orr, John Orr (Mae), Marie Rose Johnson, Hollis Johnson V (Hojo), Sophia Marie Stiles, and Shel Stiles V; and great-grandchild, Olivia Lyn Janisse.
Edward was a graduate of Detroit Catholic Central High School and then furthered his education at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. He was an avid sports fan, particularly a supporter of the Tennessee Titans, Detroit teams, and especially the Detroit Lions. Edward also enjoyed vacationing, sailing on cruise ships, and enjoying leisurely days on the beach. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of watching old Western movies and Fox News, jigsaw puzzles, fishing, and slot machines.
Edward and Rosa Lee were especially grateful to live with Mary and Jeff over the last couple years, getting to spend so much time together as family. He treasured family gatherings, which were a hallmark of his life. Most recently he enjoyed spending time with his great-granddaughter. Edward was a man of strong Catholic faith, which guided him in all aspects of life and served as a source or strength and inspiration to those around him. Throughout his life, Edward’s proudest accomplishments stemmed from his immense love for his faith, family, and friends. He will always be remembered for his love of having a great time and his hearty laugh.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place immediately following visitation at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Inurnment to follow at Hendersonville Memory Gardens. A Celebration of Life gathering will take place at 4:00 p.m. following the service. Please reach out to Mary Orr or Tom Janisse for address.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Adoration Home Health & Hospice in Edward’s memory.
