Edward Thadd Johnson, age 83, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025.
Ed was born on August 28, 1941, in Jeffersonville to the late James D. Johnson and Ruby Clinton Johnson. A proud servant of his community, Ed began his career in law enforcement as an officer with the Clarksville Police Department and was a charter member of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. He continued his life of service as a trusted security guard at Colgate and later at Clark Memorial Hospital, where his calm presence and strong sense of duty were deeply appreciated.
Ed was also a longtime member of the local Masonic Lodge 340 of Jeffersonville and the Hadi Shrine Temple in Evansville, embracing the values of brotherhood, honor, and charity.
Above all, Ed will be remembered most for his deep devotion to his family. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and brother whose kindness and steadiness anchored those he loved. His legacy lives on in his children, Sandra Johnson (Leslie Harrington), Donald Johnson (Danita), and Kimberly Taylor (Sean); grandchildren, Daniel Moody (Melissa), Kaitlyn Johnson, Abigail Johnson (Bryant Conder), Ashley Ervin (Brad), and James Napier; and great-grandchildren, Dalton Moody, Callie Moody, Hayden Tyler, Christopher Ervin, Taylor Ervin, Bentlee Napier, and Colin Napier. He also leaves behind his cherished fur babies, Baby Bella and Bear.
Ed was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judith Marie Gill Johnson; his parents; and his brothers, Tommy Johnson and James Delon Johnson.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, and also the next day from 11.am. until service time at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway. Funeral services to celebrate Ed's life will take place at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
Ed's family is grateful for the years of love, protection, and laughter he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed.
