Edward Johnson, 89, of Worcester, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of August 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

He leaves behind the love of his life, Theresa (Palaio) Johnson, with whom he shared 62 wonderful years of marriage. Edward is survived by his children: Paul Johnson and his wife Laurie of Boylston, and Kathy (Johnson) Caldwell and her husband Ben of New Smyrna Beach, Florida. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to five grandchildren—Joshua, Daniel, Ryan, Brady, and Brianna—who brought him immense joy.

Edward also leaves behind his sister, Edith Cook of Shrewsbury, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Clifford, Jerry, and Wayne Johnson, and his sister Marion Erickson.

Born in Shrewsbury to Folke and Elsie Johnson, Ed or Eddie, as he was affectionately known graduated from Boys Trade School. He spent many years working with Bayer Mingolla Construction before beginning a new and meaningful chapter as an Environmental Police Officer for the State of Massachusetts. In that role, he served with honor and integrity, earning numerous accolades including Shikar Safari International Award for his dedication and excellence in public service.

Ed loved traveling, especially to Aruba, and enjoyed trips to the casino. Above all, he cherished time spent with his lifelong friends and his family. He will be remembered for his warm heart, sharp sense of humor, and the deep love he had for his community and those around him.

Edward’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 23 Fales Street, Worcester. A calling hour will be held in the church prior to the Mass, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Edward’s memory to Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 23 Fales Street, Worcester, MA.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the VNA Hospice and VNA Care teams for their compassionate support, especially Roseanna and Caitlin.
