Edward Paul Kern, age 74, of Du Quoin, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at Herrin Hospital.

Edward was born in Du Quoin on February 21, 1951, the son of Joseph and Mary (Olejar) Kern. Prior to his retirement, he had worked for Turco Manufacturing, Freeman United 3 Coal Mining Company and General Cable.

Edward, a devoted outdoorsman and gardener, passed away, leaving behind cherished memories with family and friends. He found joy in simple pleasures: fishing, hunting, and tending to his garden. Edward's garden was his pride, where he cultivated more than just plants - he nurtured relationships, sharing its bounty with neighbors and friends.

His love for nature and community will be deeply missed. Edward's legacy lives on through the countless memories and shared experiences with those who knew him.

Survivors include his sister- Mary Ann Ball of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister- Rose Leza of Temple, Texas; brother- Bernie (Michelle) Kern of Du Quoin; brother- David (Doris) Kern of Du Quoin; several nieces and nephews; and a host of many extended family members and friends he cherished.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers- Thomas Kern and Joseph Kern, Jr., and his brother-in-law- Wayne Ball.

A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Maxton-Rosado Funeral Home, located at 11 South Hickory Street in Du Quoin.
Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Maxton-Rosado Funeral Home in Du Quoin, with Deacon Anthony Kellerman officiating.

Inurnment will take place at a later date at the columbarium niches of the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Du Quoin.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church for memorial masses to be offered in honor of Edward.
