Edward Lee Koops

Edward Lee Koops, age 84, passed away peacefully in his Holland home surrounded by family and into the loving arms of his heavenly father on September 30, 2022, following a battle with Alzheimer's.
Ed was a longtime member of Fourteenth Street Christian Reformed Church and served in various roles such as deacon, elder, and youth leader. He spent over 25 years working at the Holland Post Office until his retirement in 1992. Ed had an affinity for anything sweet, loved coffee, and was well known for his famous Eddie's Homemade bread. You could often find him at his best when tinkering with his classic car collection, amphibious cars, and woodworking. He learned hard work from a young age on his family farm and loved animals and tractors. In Ed's leisure, he enjoyed boating, adventuring, and teasing his kids and grandkids. He even built his own motorhome (featured in the Holland Sentinel), boat and house. He was a man of many talents who worked hard with his hands and played even harder. Ed was a humble, loving man with an impeccable sense of humor, truly, until his last days on this earth.
Ed was known by many nicknames while living on this earth: Eddie, Ed Lee, Uncle Ed, Dad, Grandpa, and Papa Great.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Hugh Koops; brothers-in-law, Stanley Sluiter, Dr. Paul Brink, and Wayne Westveld; grandson Dalton Koops; and his son-in-law, Jamie Pratt.
He is survived by his wife Sharon (Deters) Koops; children, Chris (Paul) DeVisser, Paula Pratt, Kurt (Kelly) Koops, and Karla (Paul) Fikse; grandchildren, Cara (David) Williams, Kelly (Adam) Nadeau, Ashley (Steven) Mulholland, Elyse (Bob) Molenhouse, Hannah (Tim) Schroll, Cameron (Allison) Pratt, Cassandra Koops, Braydon Koops, Emma Fikse, Sara Fikse, and Ethan Fikse; great-grandchildren, Zeke, Lex, and Cadence Williams, Margaret, John and Bobby Molenhouse, Leo and Oliver Mulholland, and Clara Schroll; siblings and in-laws, Marilyn Koops, Joyce Sluiter, Karen Brink, Wanda Westveld, and Deb (Chuck) VanFassen; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service is planned for 1:00pm Friday, October 7 at 14th Street Christian Reformed Church, 14 W 14th St., Holland (the place of Ed and Sharon's Marriage 62 years ago). Rev. Ren Broekhuizen will officiate. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for 5:00-8:00pm Thursday, October 6, also at the church.
