Edward "Ed" Lanz, 88, of Mounds View, MN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at North Memorial Hospital, in Robinsdale, MN, surrounded by family he so dearly loved. Ed was born on April 3,1937 in St. Anthony, ND to Joseph and Rose (German) Lanz. The family relocated to Lemmon, SD where Ed grew up. At the age of 17, the family moved to St. Paul, MN. Ed graduated from Central High School in St. Paul, MN in 1955. He worked and attended trade school studying drafting. On September 9, 1961, he married the love of his life Barbara Casey and together they built a Christian life filled with love, laughter and joy. They were blessed with three children, Catherine, Paul and Jean. Ed shared his passion for art, drafting, woodworking, and photography with his family. Ed was friendly, personable and worked in sales management at Montgomery Wards. Later, he was a Fire Educator for the Blaine, Spring Lake Park and Mounds View Fire Department. In 2006, he received the Mounds View Citizen of the Year award being recognized for his fire education work and his time volunteering in the community. He was crowned as senior royalty for the St. Paul Winter Carnival in 2009. Above all, Ed was a family man. He was a kind hearted man and a true gentleman who often shared stories and jokes. He was a fun loving Dad, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. From family gatherings to quiet moments he made everyone feel special. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Lanz, daughter Catherine (Kevin) Habas, son Paul Lanz, daughter Jean (Darren) Thompson; grandchildren Derek (Ashley) Habas, Nick (Paige Solheim) Thompson as well as Rachel (Dane) and great granddaughter, Wren. He is also survived by siblings Joane Buche, Emily Fritzke, Rosella Abler, Margie Bergeron and sister-in-law Patti Lanz. He was welcomed into heaven by his parents, Joseph and Rose Lanz, his brother Robert Lanz, brother-in-law Ralph Buche, brother-in-law Herbert Fritzke, brother Richard Lanz, sister Mary Ellen Gaston and brother-in-law Gail Gaston. Ed leaves behind a large loving family, many dear friends, and countless people he touched through his kindness, compassion and sense of humor.
