He got to do so many different things in his life from his ar s c drawing-pain ng to shoe making, shoe distribution and again came back to art and he enjoyed it. He enjoyed woodworking. He enjoyed many things in this life and we believe he experienced life to the fullest in the way that he wanted to. At a young age probably mid high school he completed a full correspondence by mail course in drawing. Back when we did not have e-mail or online classes he would send and receive his homework by snail mail from USA to Peru. Lalo would paint murals and store displays at his mother's shoe store in accordance with the season or occasion, if it was Easter, Mother's Day, Independence Day, Christmas and New Year. One particular mural he painted at the back of the store that many customers recognized as the cast of the Partridge Family a TV series from the 70's. Lalo was very good with numbers and with the patience of a saint he would teach math, geometry, algebra to siblings, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. Many remember today that he saved them from failing the school year. Ironically on his first year of high school he failed math and had to go to summer school. The reason why he failed math was because he would not show step by step how he arrived to the answer on a math test. He would figure the answer in his head. So that summer he learned how to answer step by step. Lalo loved music, he had a collection of Long Play records of Brazilian music from Sergio Mendes, Bossa Nova, The Beatles, Bee Gees, Cat Stevens, The Supremes, and also country music and many more. Lalo, his brothers and cousins had the opportunity to learn and practice KungFu. They were very good at it. They had private lessons at home from a Chinese Teacher, Tomas Kam (Sifu), whose teacher was a monk from the Siu- Lam monastery in China and in several occasions they had public demonstrations in China Town in Lima, Peru. Lalo stayed alone in Peru while the rest of the family moved to USA. He took care of closing the store and sell all proper es before emigrating to the USA. He was the captain of the ship who le last. In 1984 he arrived in Georgia, USA the land of opportunity where for the first me he earned a living doing what he loved, art. He worked with a company that sold oil paintings brought from China and learned how to frame them. He also did repairs or changes to the paintings as needed. Lalo would paint as a hobby at home and have done several oil paintings of Virgen of Guadalupe, San Mar n de Porres, etc. and he would donate to the church raffles. He also gifted family members with his paintings or customized paintings according to customer's request. He painted oil paintings for churches, schools and such. His nephews and nieces would ask Tio Lalo for help with school projects that required some drawing or construction. He also will make them Pinatas on their birthday and will ask them what kind of pinata they wanted, a flower, a TV, a Hula girl, Mario, no problem he will figure out and make it. He was very interested in technology wanted to get or learn about the latest stereo, TV, cameras, cars and all tech things. Always in tune to the latest gadgets. Lalo became a USA citizen in December of 1992 at the same me with his brother Miguel and his wife Mary. They did first communion together; they went to the same schools and universities. They bought their homes across from each other. They were the inseparable Leon brothers. He married Jenny in 2001 and were the perfect couple, he loved to eat and Jenny loved to cook. A marriage made in the kitchen with lovely food. During his latest years where his health declined, he never lost his appetite. Chemotherapy or not he loved food and Jenny was there cooking for him. We honor what Lalo has done we stand with what he's been and know what he did for Mami Lilia and grandmother Apocito and how faithful he was through it all. He never tried to create problems and never tried to bring a problem, but he would be the one that would help to move people to get everyone in the same place especially while in Peru. He was at times the only driver so he would transport mom to and from the shoe store, transport merchandise, take family to outings inside Lima or outside of Lima, would do the market for Apocito to cook and prepared family meals. Lately Lalo could not be the driver any more, he stayed at home a lot and he would listen to daily mass online and he made it a point to call his brother Miguel every day to let him know mass what about to start. Lalo was a guy of many traits, smart, creative, kind, funny, a teacher, a "Renaissance man" with many talents, ahead of his me and a very generous soul. Always ready to provide help expecting absolutely nothing in return. An example to humanity. As a teenager he had questions about our existence, he would wonder why are we here on earth? Where are we going afterwards? Today he knows the answer, he will tell us that heaven is such a beautiful thing, that there is a very high hard mountain to climb, there is not a highway to the sky. It is much harder to climb and we need to be waiting in line that he is just a dream away. (Inspired by a song Too Much Heaven from Bee Gees, thank you Lupita) Lalo will be missed by all of us that he le behind in this life his wife, siblings, nephews, nieces, friends. WE ALL THANK YOU AND LOVE YOU for leaving a positive mark in our lives.
