Edward Joseph Looney Jr., devoted husband of the late Pamela Ann Bellias Looney and loving father to Edward Nicholas Bellias Looney passed away peacefully on November 29, 2022. He was affectionately known as "Eddie" to his family and friends.
Eddie was fortunate to meet and marry his best friend, his soulmate and the love of his life, Pam. He and Pam were seldom apart and shared many things throughout their lives including their love of good music, good food, exciting travel and watching their beloved Yankees, Giants and Devils. They were most proud of their son, Edward, and felt great joy when "Little Eddie" graduated from Rutgers and began a successful career.
Eddie was born on July 24, 1957 in Paterson NJ to Marie and Edward Looney as the first of their six children. Eddie spent his childhood years in Clifton, mostly living above Henry's Deli, the family owned store on Van Houten Ave. As a member of the baby boomer generation, Eddie spent countless days with his childhood friends at Robin Hood Park where they played baseball, stickball, basketball, football and any other game they invented to make the most of the time between sunrise and sunset. Always known as one of the smartest kids on the block, Eddie graduated from Clifton High School and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business from Roger Williams University. Eddie played baseball and lacrosse in high school, and played baseball in college.
Eddie had a 35 year career in the securities business. He began his business career with Merrill Lynch in New York City, concentrating on the equity trading side of the securities business. After honing his craft in the stock execution business, he was hired by a successful brokerage firm in Clifton where he was the manager of the stock department, overseeing all trading for the firm. He held that position for the majority of his career in the financial services industry.
After retiring from the securities industry, Eddie and his wife Pam purchased and managed the Cable Car Deli in their hometown of Newfoundland, NJ. They lived in the town happily, along with their beloved dog Sammy before relocating to Flanders, where they spent the remaining years of their lives together.
Eddie will always be fondly remembered by family and friends for his love and knowledge of a wide range of topics including baseball, movies and music. Always a "numbers guy", Eddie knew every important stat for the Yankees and could never be stumped on Yankee trivia. Eddie coached American Legion baseball with his Father in the 1980's and would often be seen rushing from work to the baseball field just in time for first pitch (but still with his black dress socks on!)
Eddie's love of music began in the mid 1960's when he first heard the Beatles, and learned how to play the drums. He counted the Allman Brothers, The Who, The Strawbs and Hot Tuna among his favorite bands. Eddie could be heard singing "Wild Thing" by the Troggs and was a fan favorite at various music clubs in North Jersey in the late 1970's and 1980's. Eddie was also a fan of classical music, with a particular affinity for Beethoven, a love which he fostered in his son.
Eddie is survived by his son, Edward. He is also survived by his five siblings and spouses; Karen and Dan Masterson, Therese Tomaiko and Denise Michalowski, Rosemary Looney, Richard and Amy Looney and Raymond and Ana Looney. He was also loved and adored by Pam's family including her mother Elaine Kovacevich and her sisters and their spouses; Joanne and Nick Strauss, Gail and the late Jim Carr, Robyn and Frank Buglino, and Nicole Bellias Casiano. Eddie will be missed dearly by his many close friends and relatives including his nieces, nephews, siblings, aunts, uncles, mother-in-law and son.
Visitation will be held Saturday, December 3, 2022 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton followed by a 4 pm prayer service. Private cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to
