Ed passed away early in the afternoon on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, after shortly being diagnosed with cancer. Ed was born in Brownsville, Texas. After graduating from James Pace High School with honors, he went on to earn an associate degree from Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas. After college Ed moved to Dallas, Texas and began his career in photography at John Haynsworth Photography. This amazing career took him to all parts of the US including Colorado, California, New Mexico, New York, West Palm Beach, Florida and abroad to Italy and Switzerland. Ed worked his way from a Framing Technician all the way to Lead Photographer. Both assisting and leading portrait sessions with individuals, families all the way to celebrities, and sport icons with most all returning as customers for his services, in part due to his skill with young kids, his iconic red clown nose, as well as his attention to detail and unique approach.

Later in his career when his photography shifted toward a more product focus working with Holland & Holland, Ed satisfied his desire and passion for people by working in places he had first-hand knowledge of the impact he could have- he was a Sober Escort, a Peer Navigator at Green Oaks Psychiatric, and held positions at Trader Joes followed by a position at Sprouts where he carved out a new role, Store Ambassador & Trainer where he was a valued member of the Sprouts family until his passing.

Ed was active in fellowship. Setting aside intentional time to spend with his friends and partners in recovery. He was active as both as a peer and sponsor at times. He learned and grew consistently from those that invested in him, and equally from his investment of his own time, energy, and love to those he cared for and believed in so deeply.

As the phrase goes, Ed truly "never met a stranger." To know Ed was to love Ed. He made and kept so many friends from all different walks of life. He had a knack for knowledge. He held insights and opinions on almost every topic that allowed him to have almost instant connections with anyone he met. He has positively touched the hearts and lives of countless people - filling all our lives with love, compassion, and lots of laughter. The magnetic energy he carried with him throughout his life is something we can all hope to emulate and carry on in his honor. While our hearts may be hurting by his passing, heaven has gained one of the brightest lights - an amazing, funny, giving, beautiful soul - and we are uplifted knowing he is at peace.

Ed is survived by his son Ryan Lozano of Dallas, Texas, sister, Velma Gidcomb of Dallas, brothers Miguel Lozano of Arlington, Texas, Rick Lozano of San Benito, Texas and Daniel Lozano of Waynesboro, Virginia, nieces Jenna Gidcomb, Emily Lozano, Veronica Harrington, Debbie Steidle and nephews David and Steven Lozano, Wade Terry , James Byerly Lozano and extended family. Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Dora and Luis Lozano and brother, Omar Lozano.

Donations in Ed's name can be made to: American Cancer Society, Dallas 24 Hour Club, Chef to the Shelters or to your favorite charity.

I met Ed when he was with Haynsworth Photography and I won a Family Portrait at the Dallas Arboretum. For 20 years Ed took photographs of my family at our Annual Tejml Family Reunion at my home in Copper Canyon, Texas (north of Dallas in Denton County.) We live on 10 heavily wooded beautiful acres.

At our Reunion we sleep and feed 24 family members in our home 4 days and nights, ages 3 years to late 80's. And family members bring their favorite dog, so we have had 2-3 chocolate labs, one adorable 10 lb rescue mutt, and a 5 lb geriatric poodle. Can you imagine Ed getting all 24 family members outside, with the 40' trees as a backdrop, to smile naturally at the same time PLUS get all pet dogs to also look at the camera?!? Ed did some theatrical clown maneuvers and sounds to achieve that incredible result! I have 14" by 20" Family Reunion Portraits all over my home from those 20 years.

And, Ed always kindly gave me total rights to the digital negatives, so individual family groups could share their family portraits on their Christmas cards.

My call to Ed in January to set the date for his Photography for our Memorial Day Family Reunion was my first notice of his November 7th death by his sister. I was stunned!!! And, I am so sorry for his death and the grief of his many friends and family members!

My favorite Lozano photo is the backdrop for my iPhone. It is my husband and I sitting surrounded in our back yard with our 7 grandchildren, ages 5 to 30. And we all have eyes open and natural smiles - thanks to Ed's talent!

I have known Edward since early 1990s when Haynesworth photography opened in Palm Beach. For a while I worked in the office which was across the street from my home. Edward and I became friends immediately. I even accompanied him on family shoots many times. Edward was a very talented photographer. And he was wonderful especially working with younger children . In 2001 I moved out to Santa Fe and we connected . In 2014 he came to visit me . It had been many years since we last saw each other. From that time until the present we were always in touch by phone. I received a call to pray for him as he had been diagnosed. He always requested that I pray for him — which I always did. What is so senseless is that he was upbeat and talking like any other day. Less than one month later he rapidly declined. I prayed every day until I received the news. I am very saddened and shocked. Especially that I won’t be getting my calls and hear his voice. Edward adored his sons. Was proud of his sons. Helped many people who struggled with addictions. Took his work seriously. I could go on and on. I will forever miss my friend. I will now think of him as a bright star in the firmament. Edward leaves an indelible mark in my heart. I am certain in the heart of all who knew him and loved him. Rest peacefully my beloved and dear friend. Maria Fleetwood PB, Fla
