Edward F. Machacz, 79, of Uxbridge passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on 12/9/25. Born in Milford and raised in Uxbridge, he was the son of the late Frank M. and Clematis J. Machacz.
After graduating from Uxbridge High School, Ed earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from University of Massachusetts-Amherst. While at UMASS, Ed was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and freshman baseball. After graduation, he was a corporate accountant, working for the former State Mutual Life where he held various cost and investment accounting positions and for the Knights of Columbus headquarters in New Haven, CT as Assistant Controller responsible for investment accounting and reporting. After retirement, Ed did extensive contract accounting work and was also staff accountant for the International Golf Club, a job he described as an excellent job with great benefits. Ed was a third degree Knight of Columbus, a member of K of C headquarters council and he served six years in the Massachusetts National Guard. Ed was a regular member of St. Mary Church in
Uxbridge, MA.
Ed enjoyed the simple things in life, frisbee and biking on Cape Cod, the Sunday family dinners Priscilla cooked or son Steven grilled, playing scrabble with the grandkids on long Winter afternoons, and he especially took pride in running afternoon movies for the whole family down in his "Theatre by the Canal". Ed and Priscilla were High School sweethearts and soulmates who recently celebrated their fifty-seventh wedding anniversary. Summer vacations in Orleans, Disney trips, California trips to see relatives and winter vacations in New Smyrna Beach, FL highlighted their joy together. They also travelled the US due to Ed's involvement as charter member of an investment accounting and reporting system user group.
Ed really enjoyed supporting his family in all their sporting endeavors. He was there for Steven's playing for Northbridge's crackerjack football team, Gregg's playing for Sutton's championship soccer team, attending Claes' Madison, NJ ice hockey games, Martin's tennis pursuits, and Nicole's playing for the champion Millbury volleyball team with Nicole recognized as a first team Central Mass All-Star.
Ed couldn't have been prouder of Allison's professional teaching career and many times iterated that if everybody truly enjoyed and performed their job on such a high level, the world would be a much happier place. And then there is grandson Thomas whom Ed always commented was a truly gifted writer as evidenced by the manuscripts Thomas has had published as Senior Staff Reporter for UMass' Collegian campus newspaper and now professionally for "the Brattle" Theatre in Cambridge.
Although he was very active during his life in baseball, tennis, running and home carpentry projects, anyone who really knew Ed soon realized his love of the ancient and honorable game of golf. While at the Knights of Columbus home office, he initiated and directed the annual headquarters council golf tournament for the benefit of local charities. He was also a member of Raceway Golf Club and the Allmerica and Hamden, CT KofC golf leagues. After retirement, he worked in golf course operations for several of the local golf establishments, cherishing the friendships he made. He was thrilled to attend two Masters Tournaments with son Steven, Pebble Beach Golf Links twice with son Gregg and record a hole-in-one on the fourteenth hole of Harbour Town Golf Links, a hole Golf Digest magazine once labeled "The Most Difficult Hole on the PGA Tour."
Ed is survived by his wife Priscilla J. (Tancrell) Machacz, his sons Steven E. Machacz of Uxbridge and Gregg P. Machacz of Madison, NJ, Gregg's wife Susanne Fausing Machacz, grandchildren Allison, Nicole, Thomas, Claes and Martin Machacz, sister-in-law Patricia Flynn and her husband Michael of Duxbury, brothers-in-law Roger Tancrell of Duxbury and Fr. Luke Tancrell of Columbus, OH
He will be dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his Lord. The family kindly declines flowers and donations, but prayers and kind thoughts are appreciated. A special thank you to the staff at Dana Farber and Salmon Hospice for their kind words, presence, and compassionate care.
