Edward John Mantel, 90, of Katonah, NY, passed away peacefully at home on May 8th with his family at his side.
Edward was born in Queens, NY, August 2, 1931. To the late John and Anna Mantel.
He was educated in St Mathias grade School in Queens and attended a trade school for high school.
After graduation, he worked for Daco Tool and Dye company in Brooklyn.
When he was 20 yrs old he enlisted in The Army and was sent to Korea. Six months later he was blinded by a land mine. He was rehabilitated at Hines in Chicago, Ill. He came home and returned to work at Daco Company.
On Sept 17, 1967 he married Marion Kelly., the widow of the late John F. Kelly.
Edward became a stepfather to Kathleen, John and Timothy Kelly.
In Sept 1969 he attended Rochester Institute for the Blind to become a computer programmer.
A year after graduating he was employed by Raw Data in NY City which was later bought by Lowes Theaters and Hotels.
He worked for Lowes Corp. for 27 years. At 62 he retired as a Systems Analyst in computers.
Edward and Marion traveled for many years with friends. Trips to Europe through countries while on bus tours which he enjoyed so much. Also cruises through the Panama Canal,Alaska, The Caribbean Islands, Canada and Nova Scotia.
Edward was a member of the Katonah Lions and was a standing member of the American Legion, Post 1575 for 60 years.
Edward is survived by his loving wife: Marion ; three stepchildren: Kathleen Coulston, NY, Timothy (Kim) in NY and John (Valerie)in MA; 3 grandchildren: Casey, Justin (Diana) and Jeffrey Kelly all of Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his son-in-law Robert Coulston.
His family will receive friends on Friday, May 13th from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, NY.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 14th at 12:00 pm at St.Mary Of The Assumption Church,55 Valley Road, Katonah,
Interment will be private
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society
