It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marc Mantel, a beloved husband, father, friend, co-worker and community member, who left us too soon. Marc's infectious spirit and unwavering zest for life were evident to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He departed this world unexpectedly after suffering a fatal stroke on June 25th at the age of 52.
Marc never met a stranger. His strong work ethic and superb salesmanship earned him respect in the business world, while his personal demeanor, devastatingly handsome good looks and confident presence drew people in. An active member of the Derry Business Builders, Marc played a vital role in fostering connections within his community, and demonstrating a true commitment to helping others succeed.
A natural leader in any situation, Marc inspired others with his positivity, adventurous spirit, and desire to embrace life fully. He was a risk-taker who always said "yes" to new experiences; such as opening a sports bar, starting the company yellowpages.com, and creating his most recent business venture, Mantel Properties.
Whether he was grilling outdoors, floating in the pool, or enjoying a fine bourbon, his love for life's pleasures was evident. He took joy in the little things, be it a gorgeous sunset and beautiful trees, live music, a cold beer, a game on TV or listening to a great song at his fire pit. An excellent host, he welcomed friends and family into his home with open arms, always ensuring those around him felt cherished and appreciated.
Marc loved being a father to his three children Evan, Jillian and Kaylin, and appreciated his healthy co-parenting arrangement with Kristen Dillingham. He relished every moment spending time with each of his kids, supporting their dreams and celebrating their achievements, instilling confidence and joy in their lives while feeling tremendous pride in the young adults they were each becoming. Marc always admired so many qualities about his brother Norm; and he and his sister Kimberly Mantel had a special and unconditional kind of loyalty and devotion to one another.
He had an innate ability to connect with everyone, complimenting their strengths and lifting their spirits with quirky phrases, nicknames and sincere words of encouragement. Throughout his life, Marc adored the thrill of competition. His vibrant personality shone through in his love of music, meeting new people, and playing golf. A natural athlete and a huge sports fan, he cherished the lessons learned through teamwork and perseverance.
Marc embraced life with confidence and enthusiasm. He loved to dress up for special occasions and was never shy about getting into shenanigans beginning during his youth in North Conway. His passion for the finer things in life, combined with a playful spirit, made every moment with him a joyful occasion, even throughout his battle with cancer (TAF).
Marc leaves behind his loving wife, Lara Mantel, his 3 children: Evan Mantel, Jillian Mantel and Kaylin Mantel, and his 2 step-children: Claudia Kirschner and Parker Smith; as well as sister Kimberly Mantel and partner Paul Angelone, brother Norman Mantel, father Norman Mantel, Sr. and wife Jan Ban, and his beloved dog, Buttermilk Biscuit. Family members also survive him: Roy Fitzgerald, Ralph Fitzgerald, Betty Mantel Lee, and Matt Mantel; and countless friends and co-workers, whose lives he touched with his sincerity, warmth and encouragement.
Marc was a devoted husband to wife, Lara (known affectionately as "BabyCakes"). The consistent energy and enthusiasm he brought to their relationship was special and utterly matchless. Together, Marc and Lara built a successful business, enjoying the experience of working side by side and navigating the details together every day. Marc cherished every aspect of Lara, and she reciprocated that affection with all her heart.
Rest in peace, Marc. You will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
In honor of Marc's life, we invite everyone to gather and celebrate the joy he brought to this world on Monday, July 7th in the Peabody Funeral Homes ad Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry, NH. Visitation will be held from 2 - 4pm with a Final Tribute at 4pm. We will remember his laughter, adventurous heart, and the way he embraced life to its fullest. May his spirit continue to inspire us to love more deeply, live more boldly, and never forget to appreciate the beauty around us.
In lieu of flowers, we invite you to consider contributing to a GoFundMe account set up to support the family, if you feel led.
