Edward May of Yorktown, Indiana, the 14-year-old boxer girl of Amber May, crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on Sunday, August 10, 2025. In September of 2010, Amber brought this sweet 8-week-old little boxer pup home to live with her family. A coworker told her about a friend whose boxer dog had just given birth to a litter of pups. Amber's coworker knew she loved the boxer breed and asked if she would be interested in adopting a puppy from her friend. Amber certainly was interested. "We picked her because she was the quietest of the litter, and that turned out to be just an act!"
Something that Amber loved most about Edward was that they shared a similar hair color. Amber shared, "Her fawn color was very similar to my red hair. I also liked that her eyes always looked puppy-like, even as she got older."
Amber shared her favorite memory of Edward:was watching her run at top speed with their other boxer. "She got low to the ground and would always get the edge on him, no matter how much he tried to outrun her."
Amber described Edward's personality as having a tendency to "act like a stern mother and grouchy old lady sometimes, but was really quite sweet. She "talked" a lot."
Edward enjoyed snuggling with any pillow she could get her paws on. She knew exactly how they were supposed to be used and would lay her head upon any pillow she could find.
One of Edward's favorite things to do was to go on car rides with her family, but according to Amber, "she wasn't great at keeping her balance" while riding in the car.
Something Edward did not care for was taking a bath, but being the good girl that she was, she tolerated it. Amber recalled, "She always protested when it was time to go in but never seemed to hate it once it started."
What Amber felt Edward enjoyed the most in her life was companionship. "She never wanted to be alone." Edward's absolute favorite treat was marshmallows!
Edward's strongest bond was with her human mom, Amber, who shared, "She would follow me everywhere I went. So many times I almost fell while washing dishes or cooking dinner, because she would come in and lie down right behind me. She really just wanted to lie with whoever was in the comfiest spot."
Edward was so loved by her family, who had many sweet nicknames for her, such as "Fat Ed," "Big Ed," "Eddie Spaghetti," "Old Lady," "Sweet Pea," and "Granny."
Amber shared the sweetest memory of Edward's first arrival to her new home as a puppy and encounter with their older boxer, Apollo. "When we brought Ed home, we already had a 2-year-old boxer, Apollo. Because we didn't know how they would interact the first time we needed to leave them alone, we separated them in different areas of the house. When we came home, Ed was not in her pen, and we were worried about where she could've gone. When we went down the hallway, we found she had climbed quite high to get out of her pen, walked down the hallway, then climbed another gate to reach Apollo. They were snuggled together sleeping and continued to snuggle and sleep beside each other until Apollo passed in 2023."
In addition to her human mom, Amber, Edward will sadly be missed by her family, Abe, Corey, Ruby, and Scout.
She is preceded in death in 2023 by Apollo, who was there to greet her on the rainbow bridge.
