Buck Browning of Gas City, Indiana, the beloved 10½-year-old Jack Russell-Shih Tzu mix of the Browning family, crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
On Monday January 12, 2015, we were introduced to a litter of Jack Russell-Shih Tzu mix puppies that were born. One of the puppies was deemed not valuable enough to be sold because he was the runt of the litter. This little guy stole our hearts, and we knew we had to give this little one the love and care he deserved. He finally came home and we named him "Buck." and gave him his forever home.
What his family loved about him was the fact that he gave unconditional kisses and love for his 10 ½ years here on Earth. "Buck loved anyone that had food, and he was very vocal about what he wanted or didn't want. He also was alert about everything." This goofball was lovingly known as "Buckernut," "Buckaroo," "Fatty," and "Sausage." What he valued most in life were "Snuggles and kisses!" He was a lover! Buck had some squeaky toys from Costco that he loved, especially the dog vodka bottle. And we cannot forget his stuffed giraffe, "Girlfriend" that his sister gave him for his eighth birthday that he loved and had to travel with all the time. "Bath time would be a hard no! He growled more than anything. He'd even bite at the air from the hairdryer."
Buck loved going on car rides with his family; the words "bye-bye" or "go" couldn't be said unless you wanted him on your heels following you. He loved his golf cart rides and car rides with the air conditioner on full blast, and he always knew when it was time to travel to family. Trenna had a certain duffel bag that he would recognize and know that they would be traveling soon. Buck didn't care where they were going as long as he was there with them along for the ride and enjoyed his treats of Pupperoni sticks. One of our favorite memories of Buck: "He would bark and try to catch my windshield wipers in the car when we would be traveling through the rain." He had a deep hate for windshield wipers, and never stop whining when they turned on. Buck would express how he felt about his human sister's flute practices: "When his sister would practice her flute, he whined right along with the tune. He hated the instrument but 'loved' the songs."
Although Buck loved all of his family so much, he was especially fond of his human sister; she was his person up until she left for college, and then he became attached to his human brother, Preston, Aunt Brenda and human mom and dad. Buck loved the ladies and was definitely a ladies' man. From the very beginning of becoming a member of the Browning family until nearing the end of his 10 1/2 years on this earth, with his family is where Buck always wanted to be. His favorite things in life were just getting pets, munching on his treats, and being loved on by his family.
Greeting him over the Rainbow Bridge was his nephew Binx. In addition to his human mom and dad left to cherish Buck's sweet memory are his human siblings, grandparents, aunts, and cousins along with his fur sister Pearl and fur cousins: Hope, Bear, Kimber, Ruger, Wesson, Tater, Izzy, and Teddy.
