Edward J. "Mac" McCarthy, 92, of Enfield, beloved husband of Angelina (Nai) McCarthy, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025, at Johnson Memorial Medical Center. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, Mac was the son of the late John J. and Mae (Arsenault) McCarthy and a proud lifelong resident of the Enfield community.
Mac served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War, where his courage and patriotism became guiding forces throughout his life. A proud veteran, he was a devoted member of the Patrick F. Triggs Post 1501 VFW, AMVETS, and was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus Council #50. His love of country and unwavering sense of duty were matched only by his compassion for others.
Professionally, Mac worked for Aetna Insurance for 16 years before continuing his career at Kaman Aircraft, where he was employed for 20 years until his retirement in 1996. He was also a longtime communicant of St. Patrick Church of St. Jeanne Jugan Parish.
In 1985, Mac began a life-changing journey as a devoted friend of Bill W. His commitment to Alcoholics Anonymous became one of his greatest callings. For 40 years, Mac dedicated his time, wisdom, and heart to helping others find hope and recovery, guiding countless friends along their path to sobriety with humility, patience, and unwavering faith. His compassion and example will live on in the many lives he touched through the fellowship of AA.
In his free time, Mac was an avid golfer and a die-hard Red Sox fan, never missing an opportunity to cheer for his team or enjoy a day on the course among friends.
Besides his loving wife, Angelina, Mac leaves behind his three children: John McCarthy, James McCarthy and his wife Diane, and Kelli Mammano and her husband Steve; five grandchildren, Bryan, Kyle, and Sara McCarthy, and Kristina and Anthony Mammano. He will also be remembered fondly by the many friends whose lives he enriched with kindness, loyalty, and laughter.
Calling hours will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield. Mac's Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 31, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, 64 Pearl St., Enfield. Please meet directly at the church. Burial with military honors will follow at Hazardville Cemetery, Enfield.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mac's memory may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous, Northern Connecticut Intergroup, PO Box 494, Wallingford, CT 06492, or, the Alcoholics Anonymous General Service Office, PO Box 2407, James A.
