Edward MCDONALD Obituary

Edward David McDonald entered into eternal rest on December 18, 2024. He was born at his home in Bassett, VA, to David and Virginia McDonald on September 14, 1940, joining his brother, Bill and sister, Ann.

Ed graduated from Bassett High School in 1958. He joined the Air Force and was stationed at Geiger Field, WA, where he met and married the love of his life, Dorene Rosenbaum. They settled in Spokane, WA, where they welcomed two daughters, Kim Marie and Kelly Jo.

Ed retired from Kaiser Trentwood in 1987. He was an avid aviator, earning his private, instrument, commercial and multi-engine ratings. He owned his own airplane and took his family on trips around the states.

Besides his love for his family, Ed loved his dogs and owned pugs for over 40 years.

Ed had many friends and felt his mission in life was to help others. He loved being with family. He was so proud of his two daughters and three granddaughters. He enjoyed going to garage sales with Dorene, leading his Silvers group and traveling, especially on cruises.

Ed leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Dorene; his daughters, Kim Kubie (Keith) and Kelly Carrithers (Rob). He is also survived by his granddaughters, Sarah Kubie Chipka (Jake), Hannah and Ella Carrithers; his sister, Ann; and niece, Juliann.

There will be a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to SCRAPS or the Union Gospel Mission.

Condolences to Ed's family. I knew Ed from work at Kaiser. A genuinely nice guy. I've gone to a lot of memorial services over the years for guys we worked with. I'm sure he made it to everyone of their services and always had kind words to say to the families of those who suffered a loss. I would always see him at the Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake helping with military services there and comforting families. He stayed in touch with many retirees and organized regular get togehters for them. He was one of those guys who put others before himslef. Rest in Peace old friend, you'll be missed!

Ed was always a gentleman, a man of God who totally supported Dorene & their family. Thank you for helping with the Otis Orchards HS reunions. May God Bless you, Ed, and grant comfort to Dorene as she faces new challenges. Keep your faith, Dorene, & remember the good & wonderful times you two shared for so many years. In friendship & love. The lights at Christmas will always remind us of Christ and the best neighbor you could ask for. He brought light into our lives and lived a life of kindness and love for his fellow men. We love you.
