Edward F. "Ed" McElroy

Edward F. McElroy, 69, of Rotterdam, passed away April 18, 2025 at home. Born in Albany on January 25, 1956, he was the son of the late Francis and Annette (Minkler) McElroy. Ed had a strong work ethic, having started the Spruce Goose, a Schenectady-based company specializing in historic restoration. Most recently he was a contractor with McDonald's Construction, based out of Niskayuna. Years ago Ed became a skilled practitioner and teacher of US Budokai Karate. Ed is survived by his wife of 26 years, Karen (Thuener) McElroy. Also survived by children, ToyjaLi McElroy, Edward F. III (Kristy Cole), Matthew Ross (Julie), Christopher Ross (Mikaela) and Allison Ross (Brendan Hewson); grandchildren, Karia Quackenbush, Faithe Chateauneuf, Ryan (Christyana Civitello), Nora, Abigail, Victoria, Lauren and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Adilaye and Kamryn. Ed is survived by his siblings, Michael McElroy (Peggy), Kate Capone (Louie), Mary Daub (Harry), Sharon Sneid, Karen Wood, Anita McElroy, Donna Oliveri (Danny), Terry Holloway and David McElroy; also by his "favorite brother-in-law" LeRoy Eck. He was predeceased by his siblings, Thomas McElroy, Emeline Capone, Jeanne Clark, Brian McElroy and Eva Thompson; his brothers-in-law, Jack Holloway, Larry Sneid and Edward Wood as well as his sister-in-law Cathy McElroy.
