Edward J. McLaughlin, a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on February 7, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on December 30, 1950, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ed was a lifelong resident of the city he loved.
Ed graduated from West Catholic High School for Boys and went on to forge a path of dedication and service in his professional life. He began his career with The Evening Bulletin, proudly working there until its closing in 1982. Later, he found fulfillment and purpose as a postal worker for the United States Post Office, retiring after many years of commendable service.
A longtime resident of Lawncrest, he and his beloved wife, Susan I. McLaughlin, whom he met while traveling in Europe in the mid-1970s, purchased their family home in 1980. Together, they celebrated 36 wonderful years of marriage until Susan's passing in 2014. Ed enjoyed family vacations at the Jersey shore and was an avid fan of the Phillies and the Eagles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward T. and Frances Roney McLaughlin, his cherished wife Susan, and his son Timothy. He is survived by his loving sons, Brian McLaughlin and his wife Jennifer West, and Gregory. He also leaves behind his brother, Paul, and his wife Denise, his sister Mary Ann "Mimi" Brown and her husband Dennis, as well as many dear nieces, nephews, and their families.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at his viewing on Monday, February 17, 2025, from 8:45 AM to 9:45 AM in Saint William Church, 6200 Rising Sun Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19111. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM with interment following at New Cathedral Cemetery, Philadelphia.
Please omit sending flowers. Instead, his family requests that you hold a memory of Ed close to your heart in the days to come. His warmth, dedication, and love for his family will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
