Edward J. McQuillen

Dr. Edward James McQuillen, 93, passed away at his home in Hatfield, PA, on Thursday, November 2, 2023. He was the loving husband of the late Eleanor (Green) McQuillen.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Francis and Marguerite (Dolan) McQuillen.
He is survived by his children, Donna Ralph (Dave), Theresa McQuillen (Les Myers), Eileen Brook (late Ron Shock), Linda Matthews (Pete), Karen Neely (Andy), Mary Malinaric (Tom), and Ed McQuillen, Jr. (Beth); 24 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and brother Frank McQuillen. In addition to his wife, he is predeceased by his daughter Patricia Vitelli (Dave) and sister Joan Meehan (late Tom).
Edward had a strong love and loyal devotion to his wife and family, was always reliable, and could be called upon to handle any situation. He valued education, his Catholic faith, and hard work. He graduated from LaSalle College High School, and earned his B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering (University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University) and his Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics (University of Pennsylvania). Ed worked most of his career at the Naval Air Development Center in Warminster, PA. He enjoyed teaching math and physics to anyone who needed help. He taught various math and engineering courses at Penn State. He established a program there for composite structures in conjunction with Boeing.
Ed spent as much time as he could at his home in Sea Isle City, enjoying fishing, boating, hosting parties and evenings spent on the balcony looking out over the bay. He ran the Island Run numerous times, until the age of 80. He was very proud of his Irish heritage, learning and teaching Gaelic, was a member of the MacSwiney Club, and enjoyed Irish dancing with his wife and friends. He and Eleanor had a multitude of friend groups they kept for many years. He will be remembered as a gentleman, a leader, a high achiever, and a "can fix everything" kind of guy.
A viewing will be held from 9:30-11:00 am on Monday, November 6, 2023, at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Lansdale. Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00, followed by burial at Saint John Neumann Cemetery.
