Edward "Ed" Medina
December 24, 1972 – June 8, 2025
E
dward Medina, lovingly known as Ed, passed away peacefully at his home in Adams County on June 8, 2025, at the age of 52.
Born on December 24, 1972, to Clarence and Josie Medina, Ed was raised in the mountain town of Minturn, Colorado. From an early age, he stood out as both a gifted student and a remarkable athlete. At Battle Mountain High School, he earned all-state honors in football and wrestling, ultimately capturing the Colorado State Wrestling Championship title in 1991.
Ed's drive and talent led him to Stanford University, where he pursued a degree in Biology while competing as a member of the Division I, wrestling Team. Following his undergraduate studies, he returned to Colorado to attend medical school at the University of Colorado and later completed his surgical residency at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Denver.
Over the years, Ed built an outstanding career as a hernia surgeon, becoming known not only for his technical excellence but for the deep compassion and care he extended to his patients. He truly loved his work, and it showed in every life he touched through his skill and dedication.
Above all else, Ed was a proud and devoted father to his three children: Nico, Dani, and Jules. Being their father was the greatest joy and purpose of his life. He poured his heart into raising them with love, humor, and guidance, and in return, was cherished beyond measure by each of them.
He is survived by his children, his beloved parents Clarence and Josie, his brother Clarence Jr., his former spouse Laura Medina, his current partner Jenna Stone, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he healed, the family he cherished, and the example he set for all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Ed's honor on July 26, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Church Ranch Event Center. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness in Ed's memory-just as he would have wanted.

He was my surgeon and also my go-to consultant for any hernia issue no matter how complex. He was unbelievably skilled. I didn't realize he had been such a standout high school wrestler. I would have had a good time talking wrestling with him. I will never be able to find anybody to replace him in this specialized area of medicine. He was the best. RIP.

I just had Dr Medina perform surgery in March and a few follow up visits. My husband and I were shocked to hear of his passing. From our brief interaction it was clear he was so passionate about his job. He was full of life, a joy to talk to and a fantastic doctor. He was patient, kind and funny. I'm so grateful I was entrusted to his care and got to share a few moments of connection with him. So very sorry for your loss and thank you for sharing your dad/son/brother/uncle/partner with us. Never doubt he made a positive impact for his patients.

Dr. Medina was the Savior in my world. Never did I think I'd be "normal" again. My daughter & I had just seen him in late May to have a smaller piece done to finish the job. When saw something in the mail from his office, assumed just a payment posted, zero balance.
Please accept our sincerest condolences & know he had to be all about family and fun. I'll be 70 this year, NEVER have had an MD to that "spoke straight" without making you feel small. He was a very gifted surgeon. We will never be forget our office visits. Chill, direct & a few chuckles. May he rest in paradise - well deserved, but too early.

Dr Medina was the one surgeon who never gave up on me when others said the surgery was too risky. He was confident and caring. On rounds he took time to listen. The world lost an amazing doctor and man. My condolences to his family.

I had the pleasure of helping Ed start his practice for Exempla/SCL. He truly was one of the kindest, most genuine people I know. He even held off on starting a surgery when he was on call so he could attend my wedding. He truly was a special person and to say I was devastated to hear of his passing is an understatement. My heart goes out to Nico, Dani and Jules. I am so sorry for your loss.

I worked in the surgery department at St. Joseph Hospital. Dr. Medina was a caring surgeon, easy to work with, and kind to the OR team. He was a favorite surgeon. He often shared his love for life and for his family. He will be missed professionally and personally. My thoughts are with you.

My deepest condolences to the entire family! I was fortunate enough to have Dr. Medina as my surgeon several years ago. He took wonderful care of me and was an extremely kind soul. The world has lost a truly beautiful and compassionate human being that was always kind and fully devoted to his patients. You will be truly missed.
